We're taking our grandson to WDW in may and he has Autism and has an issue with loud noise. We can't get him (he's 7) to wear ear plugs or head phones. Has anyone else run into this and how did you deal with it? We really want him to enjoy the Disney magic. Thank You.

Get some good noise cancelling headphones. Both oldest DS and DD have issues so we have delt with this many times. They both still bolt at the sound of a fire alarm or fireworks. The good ones are not cheap but think of them as an investment. This is an issue that probably is not going away anytime real soon. DH works for a defense contracter. When he goes out to the field to work on some of the equipment the noise from the jets can be quite deafing, sorry about the spelling. So he and everyone he works with gets the ones from Bose. It might cost about $200 but is well worth the investment. Don't worry about looking funny in them. They will not be the only ones there using noise canceling headphones.

My older DS is now 12, and has a complete hearing loss in his left ear. His right ear is overly sensitive - perhaps his body's way of trying to compensate - but it makes Disney fireworks a challenge. His audiologist fitted him for what we called his "Rock Star Ear Plug" - a musician's earplug manufactured by Westone (if you Google "Westone" and "Musician's Earplug", you'll find examples pretty easily). DS has gone through 2 sets due to growth, and really gets a kick out of being able to pick out the color and pattern of his ear plug. Westone makes a number of the FM systems you see the famous rock stars wearing - so that made it "cooler" for him. And because it's a custom fit, it's much more comfortable for him than earplugs you'd buy at CVS or Walgreens.

Cost was under $150 for 2 - including fitting.

Hope this helps!
