Ear Protection for Loud Events

My two toddlers are sensitive to loud noise. We have had to take them out of pretty much every 3-D movie at WDW because of it. They want to go see the Muppet Movie really badly, and I am trying to find something to reduce the noise for them. I have been looking for small size ear plugs with no luck. I thought I read somewhere on the boards last year about devices that looked like ear phones that block the noise. If anyone has information on them, can you please share so I can try to find them here in NJ?

Thanks.

These are good for things like loud shows or concerts, it cancels out the high decibels while still letting in sound so the little ones can hear something. I have used these many times for concerts and other loud events like fire works shows.

We just use ear plugs that we buy at Osco's. The foam kind. also do not forget to use them on POTC. It is very loud in the begining. Our kids also use them when we go to movies.

This is more common than you may realize!! My DS now 20 still uses earplugs - (an audiologist described that certain descible noises jump nerve endings causing my ds physical pain!) He is older and uses the yellow soft kind you buy at WalMart/Target etc... (a friend gave him a case of maybe 2,000!!) (lol now he doesnt have to put his fingers in his ears with starter guns, etc!)

A great choice for toddlers is the protective ear safety head gear - think headphones without wires!! Again, very common, let your kids pick them, that way they have a choice, they may wear them!?!

This is not farfetched. Have you ever heard an organ playing where one of the pipes was noticeably louder than all the others? Some people's hearing is such that certain pitches come through much louder and unpleasant.

In an earlier lifetime I worked in a laboratory area where lots of us shared the same telephone. Others brought in Walkman's but I did not. Since almost no calls were for me I did not answer the phone either. Soon I brought in a pair of earmuffs that airport workers down on the tarmac use -- I tied on a string to look like a wire and just stuck the other loose end into my shirt pocket.

I am an audiologist and I am so glad to read that people are concerned with loud noises!!! You're right, some people have a higher sensativity to loud sounds that will actually cause physical discomfort. Foam plugs work great but are tough to get into tiny ears. There is moldable silicone that is really meant for keeping water out of ears that will work for noise attenuation too and can be reused. Bose makes a very nice noise cancellation head set but it is expensive. Regular noise supression "muffs" are less expensive and will do the job well.....

Also, if your little one has problems with pressure equilization on the plane, try "earplanes" they also supress noise but the primary benefit is to slow down the pressure change to keep you comfortable. They come in regular and pediatric sizes.

so will i only for me i have to go on an indoor ride or something because i can't stand the noise im buying alot of em just in case if i lose some this year its my mission to see a wishes and fantasmic!

You may have to try a few of different brands, but some foam earplugs stay squeezed for several seconds while you insert them in your ear, then they expand to block out the noise.

You might cut one in half or in thirds lengthwise for a child's ears.

This is a pet peeve of mine too and one reason my kids hate going to the movies - too loud. People don't realize how damaging that is. Now with iPods blasting in their ears all the time, is it any wonder kids walk around saying "huh?" to everything. My DD is so exasperated with me because I haven't let her have an iPod.

and found them on a string. Each ear plug has little "wings" on it which mold into your ear. The string keeps you from losing them.

We use them for everyone.
