Ear infection question

Yes--I did see a doctor. : ) But I still have a question.

I'm on the 10th day of an antibiotic for a double ear infection and sinus infection, and tomorrow I start a new antibiotic (z-pack) because the other one didn't work that well.

This morning I blew my nose and I had a huge "POP!" in one of my ears, like the kind of an "ear pop" you get on an airplane. Is this a good thing? Could it mean that my infection is finally starting to go away?

It could, but it's more likely that pressure has been relieved on the inner ear by the pop. That will make you feel better in and of itself. The pressure lessening can be an indication that the inflammation of the infection is subsiding.

Ugh... I had that same problem a few weeks ago. My ears were clogged for something like 3.5 weeks... I can't tell you how happy I was when they started popping... It took maybe a week after that before they fully drained.

I also had two rounds of Antibiotics. Good luck to you. I'm not the only person I know with a chronic ear infection this year... At least one coworker and another friend. Who knew that ear infections were contagious

Thanks! It does feel just a little less clogged in that ear. I'm cautiously optimistic that maybe the ear is finally healing.

I'm sorry to hear that you had an ear infection, too. This is the first time I've ever needed 2 rounds of antibiotics, so I really hoping that the z-pack will do the trick.
