I am shopping for new luggage and have narrowed it down to the Eagle Creek Tarmac 25" or 28" (see links below). These are both very expensive so before I take the leap I thought I would see if anybody here has them or has had them and if so what do you think. If I get one of these I am also getting the cubes and what nots too so if anybody has those tell me about them.

Thanks

P.S. I am open to recommendations of other things also

I've sold luggage in the past, and I've found that I prefer the Ricardo Big Sur. Here's an example:

A 24" is good for a weekend trip, or 4 days. if you want more than 4 days, or wear a lot of clothes, you'll need a 26 or 28. When I travel for 4 days for example, I take 1 extra pair of pants, all the unders, and 5 shirts. The only problem with the 28"-30" is they get heavy FAST. I pack light, just to make sure I only have to use a 26" at most. I haven't used anything bigger in about 5 years, because it's just too much to pack around.

Another good brand is travel pro. Travel Pro was the first luggage to do the rolling deal. In fact, it was created by a pilot who wanted rolling luggage with a pulling handle. He created it in his garage, and when other airline people saw it, they asked him for some. He ended up making it for them, and then turned it into a company. I see lots of pilots and attendents using it.
I still prefer Ricardo over Travel Pro. Travel Pro is a bit more expensive, and it holds up about the same. Ricardo in their lugages puts a clear plastic section (much like your bigger clothing section). This is for your dirty clothes, and I love it. If anything is wet or sticky, I'll stick it in there as well so it doesn't get on the cloth part of the luggage.
Both of those brands include very good nylon mix coating on the outside. The weave is very strong, and I've never had it rip; even my cat took her claws to my Big Sur one day, but you couldn't tell where. It holds up extremely well. The other thing you look at are the corners. In some luggage, the corners are just...there. With Ricardo and Travel Pro, the corners have some extra edges; normally black hard plastic. This helps keep your luggage corners from tearing.
Travel Pro has wheels taht you can remove and replace; this is good if you ever need to. The Ricardos did not have that as a couple years ago, when I was selling it.

I will say congrats on choosing the more expensive luggage though. Many people go for the "3 pieces for 99.99!" or even "7 pieces for 99.99!" This is refered to as "one trip luggage" because the first time you put it on the plane, it gets destroyed. When you get higher quality luggage, you do pay for the luggage to actually stay in one piece.

Wow I said a lot, and didn't really answer your question about the luggage you linked!
I don't know anything about it though, sorry :(

Can't answer your question, but, if you are a member of AAA, you should be able to link from the AAA site to the e-bags store for 20% off (even off sale prices). Not sure when the deal ends, but might be worth looking in to. I have been checking out their prices for luggage for my DS and my 2 sis-i-l (they are young, and we are taking them next summer...they have no luggage, so I thought it would be a nice gift at holiday time).

. . . and really like it. I use it with a pack-it folder, but don't use the other pack-it products. It works for a weekend for one or an overnight for 2. We can even put our laptop and related cords in it as well, but that makes it pretty tight.

That said, the luggage I check through is pretty cheap (Samsonite on sale) because I know it will deteriorate over time. I am not sure that the Eagle Creek guarantee will cover what might be considered ordinary wear and tear from baggage handlers.

Also, depending on how you pack, the 28" may be too big to check through the airlines without paying overweight baggage charges. I don't think we have used our 28" bag since the airlines starting charging for bags weighing more than 50 lbs.

Good luck-- Suzanne

Can't comment on the luggage, but we use the cubes and pack-its all the time and my husband, the meticulous packer, swears by them. I have had an Eagle Creek carry on bag for about 8 years. I use it every day for work and it is in great shape. Looks practically new.
