EA fee waived by calling? Website not secure.

It appears to DH who is much more knowledgable about these things than me - that the Turner Travel link to National from the mousesavers.com site isn't a secure connection and he would rather that I not join that way (too much personal info zipping over the lines). Has anyone tried to call National and reference the site to get the fee waived? How about if I just call to explain that I have rented twice in the past 6 months and have 3 more rentals booked ... think they would waive the fee to ensure my business?

TIA!

(I am not trying to make any waves about the connection. As I said, I am no expert but he tested it on my ancient PC and his state-of-the-art one at work where he is a software engineer and couldn't get a guaranteed secure line. It probably is safe, but we just don't take chances here. I've already been the victim of identity theft once in my life and that was quite enough!)

I don't have an answer to your question, but I would call and ask.

I have the enrollment page up now and the address does not have https listed at the beginning of the address. The s stands for secure server, yet on the bottom of that same page there is a message saying, "connection to www.nationalcar.com is secure (RC4-128)".

I used the link with no problems and have done so for 4 other people with no problems.... tough call.

Best of luck to you.

It all depends on who you talk with. You have a better chance of getting the free EA if you do it online.

Telling them about your rentals usually doesn't get you anywhere.

Hey Jen, Who does your DH work for)? Many companies (including mine) offer free Emerald Club memberships. We had to fax our signup sheet, don't know if you guys would be more comfortable with that instead...

The section of the page where the form is hosted is secure. They've stupidly created the page with frames and the frame is not secure, which is why you're not seeing https: or the lock symbol.

If you don't believe me, try right-clicking on the part of the page that has the form, then choosing "properties." You'll be able to see that the actual URL hosting the form is an https: page.

Bad web design, but your info is secure.

Mary is exactly right.

Here is what the "source" of that page says in html language. Html is what all web sites are written in. People never see it, but it is how computers talk to each other. Note the part I have highlighted in red. The https says the frame is on a secure server.

Thanks Mary and Duds.

When I asked DH a couple weeks ago to check on this, he says he looked there and didn't see anything to indicate that it was secure. Maybe they were having an issue then? I should have asked him to double check this again before I posted my question. Sorry for any confusion and thanks again for taking the time to answer me.

I am sure he looked and didn't see the https in the adress line. That is the indicator that you are on a secured server. After Mary suggesting looking at the properties, I did and saw the https for the frame that the form is enclosed in.

It is secure.... go for it!
