E Ticket

Way back, when you visited a Disney park, there wasn't a "ride all day" admission. Everything was done ala carte.

Instead of purchasing an admission ticket, you purchased a book of ride tickets. Rides were broken up & the "E Ticket" was reserved for the best of the best attractions. Think Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, etc.

Now, the term is used to describe any new rides which are on the same "best of the best" level. Think Splash, Tower of Terror, etc.

Pre-1980, you used A through E tickets for rides and bought books of tickets. The term officially applies now to MK's e-night where for an extra $12 you can buy an e-ticket at your WDW resort and get to stay in MK for 3 hours after it closes and ride certain rides as many times as you want as they sell only about 5,000 e-tickets (compare that to typical 60,000 or more day crowd in MK during mid-summer). There are usually several e-nights per month (but none in Dec as they have Mickey's Christmas party after hours then). The e-night rides include premier, high demand ones --the three mountains, Buzz, Alien, Haunted Mansion-- and some lesser ones -- Country Bear, Astro orbiter, and Tomorrowland Transit.
