I can't believe I JUST realized that it is Thursday! Was it on tonight? Anybody want to fill me in?!

It was kind of eh. I'm really not impressed with this year.

Highlights:

Neela had a really tough time finding a non hospital job. She couldn't work at a cofffee bar, clothes store at the mall, and was eventually found working at a mini mart by Abby and the new Rocker doctor (what'shis name? The one with black nail polish!)

I think Corday is going to lose her job. Carter convinced her to do a transplant from one HIV positive patient that died to another HIV positive recipient.

Carter yelled at Pratt about sitting down on the job, and told him to go home. Kovach covered the shift.

There some wacky new residents, including some dude that is OCD.

The rocker doctor and Abby had a difference of opinion on some patient. There was a new surgeon hired and Corday doesn't like him.

Carter looks pretty down, and looks like he is going to have a breakdown. Kovach and Sam are sort of together. Kovach went to one of Sam's kids soccer games, and Sam looked pleased. Kovach offered him and Sam to stay at his place after the soccer game and Sam declined.

Actually pretty ho hum as episodes go. This season is getting pretty boring. I"ve been with ER since the pilot episode ten (or is it 11 ? years ago, and its getting quite stale.

Good. Thanks for the recap. We had people over to watch the game so I couldn't even TIVO it. I figured I didn't miss much.

That's what I thought too. I kept waiting for some intense scene to start but it never did. It really seemed like a "filler" show this week.

The set up was a bit obvious as to which one of them will be leaving permanently next week (Corday). I thought they would have had a better storyline for her exit.

One other things that struck me as really, really odd. Why on earth was "Chuck" breastfeeding his and Susan's baby (what was the babies name??). I understand bonding with your child but that was a bit extreme to me.

You forgot about Neela getting a job at the store..with her little Statue of Liberty hat on! LOL

Oh, and let us not forget the scene where Carter walked into the locker room to find Chuck breastfeeding the baby. Yup, it will be awhile before I can get that image out of my head!

I read an article awhile ago that they were getting rid of Corday. I really like her and I'm sorry to see her go.

That breastfeeding thing was gross. :(

Susan came back with her baby and handed him to Carter. We are suppose to see that Carter is having a hard time, and Susan was oblivious to this.

Ya it grossed me out too when her husband was breast feeding, what was up with that?

I don't like "Shane West"-but it looks like he is suppose to be homeless, living at the hospital.

They brought a new surgeon guy in to obviously take over Corday's job.

I heard in real life Corday ( I don't know her real name) is suing for age discrimination.

I don't think Susan was oblivious to what Carter is going thru - when she came in, she was looking for one of the nurses (I can't remember her name - the one who lost a lot of weight) to watch the baby. Carter offered to watch the baby. Of course, Susan didn't say anything to Carter, didn't offer condolences or anything; maybe we're to assume she already offered her sympathy?

And Chuck breastfeeding - WEIRD! BTW - is that the same guy playing Chuck? Last season we always saw him in his paramedic uniform - can't tell if they got a new guy, or if he just looked different in street clothes.

I think this is why they are giving her such a boring exit. She has been quite outspoken about why they are getting rid of her and how she feels about it.

Thanks for the recaps! I still hate when I miss it, even if it is boring. Now if I can just remember that Third Watch is on tonight. :p

That is the same guy playing Chuck. He got a MAJOR haircut though. Last year it was long, now it's short and spiked. I don't like it. I loved Chuck last year so I hope they don't make him too weird. Susan looked great though!

I love Shane West, I hope they do good things with his character. It's obvious they are trying to groom him for Noah Wyle's shoes.

I think Carter will probably go to Africa when he leaves, what do you think?

I wish they could have found a more graceful way to send out Corday, other than disgracing her.

I didn't like the haircut either. I saw his name in the opening credits, so I knew it was him, but yuck with the hair. I wasn't that fond of the earlier 80's skater boy haircut, but it was better than what he has now.

Yes, Susan looked fantastic. The male breastfeeding thing was a bit odd, I must say.

I also thought it was sort of a blah episode. But yeah, that is how they will write out Corday. So interesting that they fired the actress because they couldn't think of anything to do with a character her age...when she started on the series, she was known as a super hot actress.

As for the male breasfeeding thing, I remember rwhen my kdis were babies and I would read the baby magazines, I saw ads for what he was using. It's supposed to be a way for adoptive mothers to breast feed. It never occured to me that I guy would want to!

Maybe they should just drop a helicopter on Corday. :earseek:

JOHN!!!

Her name is Alex Kingston, and she's a wonderful actress. She was married to Ralph Fiennes at one point, but they're divorced and she's remarried now, and had a baby a year or two ago.

Sad that she's being forced to leave . . .

I saw all the news reports about Alex being "asked" to leave the series. I don't want you to misunderstand my previous comment. I think that she has been a vital member of the ensemble cast of ER and I will be sad to see her departure from the show.

I didn't really get interested in ER until I was laid up for 3 months with a broken ankle. I started watching the show in reruns and now I am hooked.

Did you know that they have mentioned tri-malleolar fractures three times during the course of the series? I can relate.

I don't think the Corday thing is about age at all. I don't think any of the surgeon characters are every going to be a big role because they are too disconnected from the actual ER. We rarely see Weaver now. Corday worked in the ER and was involved with Mark, but when that ended there was no real way to "follow" her character. ER is all about the ER workers and how they interact with each other. Since it is too hard to make her a viable storyline I can see why the producers wanted to rid themselves of her salary. I think she is a good actress and will probably end up on another show, but I don't think age has anything to do with it.

Noah Wylie is leaving?? I did not know that. Is that speculation or has it been reported? I got the feeling that Shane West was looking like the new Carter type. Who the heck is going to be an attending though?

It is not speculation about Noah Wyle, it is fact. I believe they announced at the end of last season that this is his last year. I am not sure if he is staying all season, or leaving part way through like Anthony Edwards did.

Ok, the breastfeeding thing had me totally rolling!! She said that Chuck was more maternal than she is!! Poor kid was named Cosmo.

DH just rolled his eyes.

The one resident had me screaming at the TV, "OCD, HE'S OCD!" Called that one about 20 minutes before Abby said something!

Am I imagining things or in the previews for next week did they not say " an old friend returns"...hmmm
I put dibs on Carol Hathaway making a return (be it guest or what have you) :D
