E-pass "temporarily deactivated"

About 4-5 years ago, we invested in an Epass transponder. It's the kind with the suction cups. We've used it 1-2 times/year when we'd drive to Florida. The last time we used it in Florida was ~12/29/19.

Earlier this month, we went over a toll bridge between Ky & Indiana. Epass was listed as a payment option, so we pulled it out and stuck it to the window. I finally got around to logging in to epass to see if the toll went through. When I look at the transponder, it's listed as "Temporarily Deactivated". What the heck does that mean?

I clicked on the "Activate Transponder" link, put in the number of the transponder and was told it was an invalid number.

I'm also emailing them, but thought the smart people here would know what's going on. Yes, I do have money in the account.

I'm pretty sure you drove on an EZ Pass bridge. Years ago you needed a uni transponder from epass. All currently issued portable transponders are dual.

I'll speculate your transponder is deactivated, pending an equipment swap. Call Monday or send an email.

No roads in KY or IN accept E-PASS. Unless some other toll agency in that area happens to be using the same name for their transponder, that sign said E-ZPass.

A 5 year old portable E-PASS wouldn't be obsolete. The original E-PASS had a battery that had to be replaced every year or so, and those are obsolete, but I'm pretty sure they stopped issuing them more than 5 years ago. As I recall, they had a circular battery door that was opened by twisting a coin slot.

A portable E-PASS will not be accepted at E-ZPass tolling points. If you want a transponder that works all over FL as well as at E-ZPass tolls, for now the only option is to purchase an UNI from the same agency that issued the E-PASS.

I would suggest calling the customer service number on the website to find out what's going on with your transponder. It might be more efficient than a chain of emails.

It might have been EZ Pass. I tried to use Google Maps street view to see the signs, but couldn't find it. OK, turns out it is EZ pass. I just had to do a google search for "Louisville Toll Bridges".

I figured I'd wait until a normal work day to call EPass folks (I did email them). We're not planning a trip, so I don't have a big rush.
