Getting sued and not using a lawyer to defend you would be like trying to climb Mt. Everest without a Sherpia(sp?). You could do it, but it not in your best interest.

I'm not sure it has anything to do about not hating them any longer....

Simple solution, then -- make sure you don't get sued. not very practical, huh?

I'm sure Mr. DeLay will have an excellent working relationship with his legal team. After all, he has to rely on them.

Unfortunately certain professions (Lawyer, Car Salesman, Contractors) have a stigma attached to them. That sure doesn't mean that all people who work in these professions are lying, cheating jerks.

Unfortunately it's usually one bad apple that spoils the whole bunch.

I guess I missed where he is being sued. What you posted was an ethics probe and an investigation. What lawsuit is pending against Mr. DeLay?

Understood. I thought there was more to the story that wasn't being reported (everyone loves a juicy scandal, you know).

It amazes me when members of Congress are unable to avoid even the appearance of impropriety, let alone actual ethics violations.

I remember seeing an interview with Tom DeLay years ago where he admitted to keeping a book listing political contributors on his desk to remind those he met with that he knew whether they had given to the party or not. Can anyone say vote for sale?

Why has it taken this long to probe his ethics?

I hope someone takes Tom DeLay down. He got involved in the state legislatures job here concerning redistricting in Texas. He has a personal vendetta against Martin Frost, a Texas Democrat, and went out of his way to make sure Frost wouldn't get re-elected in his district. Delay is very unethical and IMO, a real jerk. Martin Frost has always looked after his district and many Republicans have voted for him in the past. Delay only cares about advancing his party (and his pockets) and not the interests of Texas citizens.

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now. Sorry, I really have a problem with this man.

Since you changed 'sued' to 'investigate' later in the post, I will comment that anyone can be investigated. You rub someone wrong, and they will go after you with all their might. Especially in politics.

And to everyone else who has already tried and declared him guilty - what happened to innocent until proven guilty? How about waiting til it has finished before throwing arrows. I'm not defending him - I don't have a clue as to whether or not he is guilty. Talk about vultures!!!
