E mail addresses

Where do people get your e mail address from. I have just opened mine and the first one i saw was from some one called Barbera Kelly staring right back at me was a picture of a toy and not the kids type either. Don't get me wrong i am not a prude by any means its just not the sort of thing you expect to come through your mail especially if your children go on it. Needless to say i sent her an e mail back telling her what i thought and not to send anything to me again!!!!!!!

Sometimes the emails are randomly generated to see if it is a real address. By replying you have unwittingly confirmed the email address does exist and could therefore get alot more from that address. The best thing to do with emails addresses you do not recognise is to delete straight away.

Hi,
Unfortunately it seems you have encountered spam, and these are automated emails sent out to thousands of people at once.
Companies can buy email addresses by the thousand and I guess that your email is on at least one database. I suggest if your service provider has the facility then set up a spam filter through them, alternatively many spyware programs/ anti virus programs also include spam filters, if you do not possess these I would suggest you buy them as unfortunately they are a necessity these days to protect your computer and your personal details.

Family and friends are the only pwople I give my home email address to. For everything else such as ordering online, chat forums or eBay I have a gmail account.

as already said If you do not recognize the address/sender than just delete it.

I also have a separate email address which i use for online stuff such as forums,newsletters etc..this account Is full of junk mail every time a log on.

We have norton anti virus anti spam etc.all spam mail usually geoes into another box.

I have been getting a lot of these lately, they go straight into my spam box, and i just delete them. All seem to be the same content, from different names.

Unfortunately no spam software is 100% foolproof, often they pick up stuff that you wouldn't consider spam to be spam and ocasionally they let stuff through that is clearly spam.

So do we and some spam still manages to get through

Same here we have norton antivirus etc but sometimes spam does get through and the mail i'm supposed to get ends up in the spam folder.

Sometimes a spam email goes to my inbox instead of my Norton spam folder, I click where it says Norton Anti Spam there is a drop down file if you click "this is not spam" Norton ask if you want it treated as spam in future when you say yes it goes to the spam folder next time.
