E-cigs in restaurants

Where did this notion that only kids like sweets come from? I just had some yogurt and it was a heavenly sweet lime flavor.

It's kind of sad that someone came up with a smoking alternative that is better for non-smokers but so many of them still gripe. Back to the drawing board I guess.

I am guessing that I know the other smoking substance, and having experience dealing with a family member who is now super paranoid and depressed and has mental issues and has massive anxiety after smoking it for upwards of 40 years, I would say that I believe it SHOULD be illegal.

To the bolded: The same side effects can be said for alcoholism, yet alcohol is still legal for adults 21+, so this argument really doesn't hold much water in the grand scheme of things.

May I ask you a question? (and this is really off topic)

Are you positive that family member didn't have any of those issues before he /she started smoking the substance over 40 years ago? I ask because I have a friend who is bi polar but uses pot to help her because she is terrified of taking pills. It does help her. My son used to smoke and he is also bi polar. Now he quit for many other reasons but since then as had to learn how to control his mood swings.

Having grown up in the 70's, I have to admit that I know many people who smoked for many years after our teens. I have never met anyone that had symptoms like that after they stopped unless they had them before they started and the pot was just covering it up.

Dh does have a cousin who has some mental illness and it could be said that it came from pot. That's what he thought he was smoking at a concert. But the doctors said that something was in that joint other than pot and that was what caused his problems.

Possibly, but when the family member does not smoke, the above issues go away or are greatly reduced. It is when the substance is being used that all of the above comes into play. Especially the paranoia and anxiety. It seems to go in phases, the last phase of using potentially being the one to break up 35 years of marriage.

WHO releases recommendations for global e-cigarette policy.
In a story widely covered by major news outlets and healthcare news sites, the World Health Organization has issued a report that calls for a ban on indoor e-cigarette use and stronger regulations to keep minors from using the devices, among other recommendations. Most stories also mentioned the recent policy statement from the American Heart Association urging stronger FDA regulation of e-cigarettes.
The New York Times (8/26, B3, Jolly, Tavernise, Subscription Publication) reports that the WHO paper “summarizes the growing body of evidence on the health impact of electronic cigarettes,” and was written in preparation for the United Nations Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in October. The article notes that “the organization has no power to enforce its recommendations, but delegates to the meeting could, in theory, endorse the measures for inclusion in a treaty or call for yet more studies before taking further action.”
The Wall Street Journal (8/26, Esterl, Evans, Subscription Publication) reports that the WHO called for restrictions on advertising and notes particular concern on the growing role of large tobacco companies in the e-cigarette industry. Phillip Morris responded that the agency was calling for industry to be forced out of the policy making process. British American Tobacco PLC also said that overly restrictive regulations would hinder the industry and the public health benefits it could provide.
According to the Los Angeles Times (8/27, Raab), the report recommends “advertising for e-cigarettes shouldn’t be allowed to make health claims – including claims that the devices help people quit traditional smoking – unless such claims are borne out by clinical trials,” that “marketing for e-cigarettes shouldn’t target children or people who don’t already use nicotine,” and urging that “fruit, candy-like and alcoholic-drink flavors” be banned.
The AP (8/27, Heilprin) reports that e-cigarette “sales are banned in 13 of the 59 countries that regulate the devices, the WHO reported, but most of those 13 countries say they are still available because of illicit trade and cross-border Internet sales.”

Disclaimer: I apologize if I shouldn't bumped this, but considering some of the comments, and my post being on topic, figured it would be OK, if not, I apologize.

Seems a few people brought up the flavor and why e-liquids come in them considering analogs(combustible tobacco cigarettes) don't. ECF, the Electronic Cigarette Forum, did a survey asking vapors what flavors they prefer; 30.55% of the people said Fruit. 22.% said Tobacco, 18.86% said Dessert and the percentages go on and on.

Speaking from experience, I wanted something that was nowhere near the flavor of a normal cigarette so I tend to vape fruits and dessert flavors. I have 4 bottles in front of me right now, one is a great Vanilla Custard, I have a GWAR liquid that is fruity, a very awesome dragonfruit and one that is a berry/menthol, but mostly menthol. So, yes, while they may seem like "kid friendly" flavors, adults' taste-buds didn't mysteriously die when they hit 18.

Here's my thought on the whole smoking/E-cigs thing.

1. Every business should be allowed to make their own rules if they allow smoking the real stuff or e-cigs, not the government.

2. If you don't like smoking don't go where people are smoking.

3. If your smoking outside be polite and ask if they people mind, if they do move.

4. I'm a smoker and pretty polite about it, but even my politeness has its limits.

Now for the rude part I cant wait till the tax the dog pooh out of junk food.... real cigs sales are going down, and tax dollars are needed, so stock up on the soda and chips. Fat tax is next.

In my opinion a cigarette is a cigarette. If it not okay to smoke a "regular" cigarette it is not okay to smoke a "e-cigarette."
