E-bayer buyer won't pay full amount

Well, I have hit my first Ebay snafu. I sold an item (had 12 bids, a popular item that lots of people have) and immediately upon winning the bidder balked at the shipping price. It was clearly stated, not "see buyer for details or calculated." It was shipping in a priority flat rate box, 1.00 for handling and 1.30 insurance. She said that was too high...but I had already packaged my item. I told her if she didn't want it, I would sell to the next highest bidder, no hard feelings. She declined. Yesterday I got payment (about $3.00 less, she plugged in her own shipping amount vs. what I asked for). I debated...do I just send it, or repack it or eat the amount I am losing in order not to get negative feedback (which I don't deserve).

Well, I refunded the $ through pay pal and reinvoiced and told her the proper amount way XX.XX. Was that the right thing to do? She has had 2000 transactions, so I do believe she knows full well what she is doing. I don't like being bullied, my terms were clear and there were a dozen of these she could have bid on. I also hate controversy and hard feelings. I try to bend over backwards to accomodate people, but I had no other box this would fit in, and my terms of shipping were no secret.

Help, did I do the right thing? I am in knots!!! Even thinking about my upcoming Disney trip doesn't help, I feel sick over this. I am fairly new so a negative on me would stand out like a sore thumb. I need encouragement, please, THANKS!!!

YOU BET!!!
I can't believe that!!!!!!!!!!!
Be prepared for a negative, but DO NOT give her feedback till you get it from her.
Wait the time period and go ahead and NPB alert for her, so you can sell to the next highest bidder.
You might want to email her and say you have 7 days to pay full amount or I am going to "relist".
Can you believe people freak out over $3?????

In my opinion if you listed your shipping price she should have to pay for it. She may just be trying to see if she can get away with it. Stand your ground. You are in the right on this one.

Hi. I have a similar issue. I sold a small item and the buyer did Buy It Now. Later I found something that goes along with it and asked if she wanted them too for $3 extra. That was a really good deal. She replied and was excited to get the extra but never paid me. Then when I inquired she said she had forgotten but that now it was paid via PayPal. I've never recieved anything else from her but her original payment. I haven't shipped yet because I don't know if I should ship just the original item or include the extras. it's only $3 so I should probably just stick them in there but it is the point of it. I've emailed and emailed. Now it's been almost 2 weeks since she purchased it but I haven't shipped yet. Do I wait or do I ship just original item. I don't want negative feedback either because I have never gotten any. I can see where she might be irritated that I haven't shipped but I'm irritated because she hasn't paid me what she said she has. Uuuugh.

I know, don't you hate stupid transactions like this? You know, some people are so nice/easy. They pay, you ship, the end! Then there are these nightmare people. I keep thinking...is this worth a negative? Even a neutral?

Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it to sell...I have enjoyed it so far but this has sucked the joy right out of it. One bad apple....ohhhhh....

Forget about it! You defintely did the correct and HONEST thing. E-bay makes a big deal about "Binding Contracts" once you bid. She bid, Knowing full well what the costs were. It is not your fault she is baulking at the extra money, that was listed in your auction.

I would give her a few days and then offer a 2nd chance to the next highest bidder.

Defintely DO NOT give him/her feedback until you get feedback from them. "If" they do give you negative, Respond to it stating clearly and concisely that this bidder refused to pay the listed S/H on the auction and therefore a 2nd chance was offered to another person (maybe all that won't fit in the blank but you get the idea) ;)

I am sorry you had to go through this, best of luck. Rest assured you did the honest thing by giving back the money and re-invoicing her with the correct amount. By bidding she entered into a legally binding agreement to pay (in its entirety, the cost of the product and fees associated)

If a person buys from a "real" company online, they DON'T get the option to pay whatever they feel is correct shipping, so the same should be true when you buy on ebay.

Way to go! :goodvibes

Along the same lines, I have noticed a LOT of the Disney phones on ebay after the recent offer from Motorola and have been surprised at how high the shipping has been - up to $20 for ONE phone. I know this is people trying to get around the seller's fees by overcharging for shipping and handling so I just chose not to bid on such auctions. However, if a bidder places a bid when the terms are clearly stated, then they do not have the right to change the rules after the fact. They should ask any questions prior to bidding.

While I do agree shipping was too high, she did agree by bidding on your item to pay it. I too just had this happen this week (my shipping was actual) with a lady wanting me to ship a different method that would have caused me a lot of work, not to mention LIE to the USPS to do so. She wanted media mail on something not eligible and that I had no packaging for. I simply told her no and told her to pay the full amount or I would relist, no hard feelings. She paid the higher amount.
