I would like to try to sell some stuff on e bay to fund a disney cruise- It seems there are seldom any discounts on them:( I am kinda confused on how it works. After you get the bid how do you send it? Does the buyer pay for shipping? Any tips wouild help to let me know if it is worth it. Thanks!!!

I'm not expert but I've bought and sold.

If I were selling, I would have the buyer pay for actual shipping/handling.

I would accept Paypal (I have an account) as you get instant payment that way, Money order, or check but the check would have to clear before I mail out the item.

I usually ship priority mail and I insure it if they want for an additional $1.00. Priority mail is $3.40 I think and you get the box from the post office.

I give a full description and a picture if possible. I don't like buying items myself if I can't see a picture of it first. Tell them to ask any question BEFORE the auction is over.

Sometimes I like doing the "buy now" option. I like buying that way sometimes if the item is low enough.

If you really want a certain price for something and would very upset if it went for less than make sure to set a reserve price. Some buyers don't like reserve prices though so sometimes your taking a chance of it not selling. But the risk of no reserve price is that it will sell for the minimum bid amount.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

We've bought and sold on eBay as well.

Usually we have the buyer pay a fixed amount for shipping -- either the actual shipping costs or an approximate amount to cover costs such as boxes or packing material if necessary. Sometimes we'll work insurance into that total, depending on the item.

eBay is now charging a fee for buy it now, but it's still a good incentive for someone to buy the item, especially if the price is reasonable. A lot of people also offer free shipping with buy it now purchases as an added incentive. I'm not sure how many are doing that now with the added fee.

Priority mail is currently $3.50 for up to 2 lbs. but is about to go up. Check your local post office or usps.gov.

Also offer to combine shipping for items. To use Disney pins as an example, it can cost as much to send two pins as it does to send one. Of course, it might be tricky packaging something like a record album with an autographed baseball. :)
