Dyson Vaccums

I've seen them at Target and Kohl's. Dyson sets the price I beleive, so they are usually the same price at either, but it may pay to shop around a little. Last I checked the Yellow was $399 at Target, and the Purple was $549.

CR rates on value also. Dyson has no light and it's $$$$; that's why it doesn't rate highly with CR. Nice vac - ignore cr.

I like CR, but (like you suggest) I did ignore them on this and I'm glad I did. I love it.

Thanks for all of the responses! I'm going to show this thread to DFi. I think that we're gonna put a Dyson on the registry!

I have a Dyson Canister, and loved it. I think the model has since discontinued (which I can't understand why). But its size and power is no comparision to others. It's truely powerful. I can vacuum once in my bathroom (with cat litter box) and I can walk barefoot on it. No little sand particles, nothing. I can never do it with other cleaner.

Not to mention, I never have to put it away. I displayed it right in the living room, and everyone wanted to try it when they come over. :)

Buy one online. You can save a little bit, no tax, free shippping....etc. Dyson is highly recommended by me.

I finally bought a Dyson Animal today during tax free days here in Massachusetts... :Pinkbounc

I absolutely love it  ..... I couldn't believe how much cat & dog hair it picked up!! It looked like a small dog in the canister when I vacuumd the carpets ... then I did the couch, chair and two ottomans and found another small dog in the canister :rotfl: I have a Norwegian Elkhound; anyone familiar with the breed knows exactly how much hair they have!!!

I can't wait to vacuum the stairs now!!! :cloud9:

I couldn't buy a Dyson because the guy in the commercials seems to have an unnatural fondness for vaccums. We have an Oreck. That guy seems to like vaccums, but I don't see the same lust in his eyes.

I have the purple Animal and I love it for picking up the hair of a shepard/something and a shepard/lab, and all the dirt and sand they bring in from outside (because you know we humans are just spotless!).

I agree with the poster that commented on where the power cord wraps. It is a pain to unravel and rewrap the whole cord.

I wish I had spent the extra money and bought the "quick release" handled one, but I think I got the prior year's model as a leftover. It's kind of a pain to use the hose, but I deal with it.

ETA: I use some of my attachments on a regular basis.

Get a Rainbow-You won't be dissappointed!!! And no im not a salesman just an extremely happy customer!!

I bought a Dyson a few weeks ago :cool1: ....finally...Dh couldnt believe :confused3 I bought it even though consumer reports rates it at #7.....DD convinced me that I needed one as she loves her Dyson....who she fondly  refers to as ....Mr. D....It is amazing  what this machine picks up. I actually enjoy vacumning now....just to see what I can get in the can.....
DH still isnt convinced that I made a wise choice but I like it....

Hoover is now making one like dyson. It goes for under $200. I think it is called the fusion.

I totally agree with MandM-Mom about the Rainbow by Rexair! I've bought my vacuum several years ago and it still works very well. It is one of the BEST vacuums I've ever owned. It does a very thorough cleaning and eliminate odors, allergens and the like. The downside is that it is expensive and honestly, it can be a pain to clean after you've used it because the Rainbow uses a water filtration system, but boy, the house looks, feels and smells really clean after using it. We also have a Dyson (the yellow one) and I use that whenever I need a quick clean but I use the Rainbow when I'm needing to do some serious housekeeping.

Question for "The Ball" owners:

Can it reach into the toe kick area under kitchen cabinets??

I bought the DC14 Animal about 2 wks ago. DH & I gave it a good workout. 2 things both of us didn't like was it couldn't get under the cabinets....and you had to undo the cord to extend the wand.

This is our first upright. We've always had canister OR central vac. We were thinking of returning the Animal, but I REALLY love how it picks up fur. So if the Ball can solve our 2 complaints, I might just exchange for that model.

Sweet Angel, which model has a "quick release"???? I was considering returning my DC14 purple animal & getting the DC15 Ball. It appears the Ball will solve a few things I didn't like about the Animal. BUT, from the picture on their website, it looks like the cord wrap design is still the same.

Am I mistaken????
DH & I are way too picky when it comes to features I think. LOL

On the model I have, if you want to use the wand on the hose, you have to uwrap the power cord, unlock the handle/hose from the vac, unclip the handle from the hose, flip upside down (the handle, not the user!) and reinsert into the hose. It's a pain.

I thought the salesman said the newer model had a quick release where you didn't have to go through all that. I'll see if I can find out more info.

ETA: I just looked at the website and even though it's called a "quick release" hose, it looks like you still have to unclip/flip/etc. Maybe someone else can confirm/deny.

We have the Ball. There is no flipping, but you do have a release button. Release, and slide up. Once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. The attachments store on the top of the canister, so they are handy.

The Ball will get under the toe space on my cabinets. :)

Boston Tea Party, do you need to unwrap the entire power cord to use the hose/wand? Just wondering.

Sweet Angel, just curious, how long ago did you buy yours? Your loosing me on the flipping part.

I got mine 2 wks ago.

I unwrap cord.
Open the wand cap & extend wand.
Press button & release wand from vacuum.
Attach tool to wand & ready to use.

ETA: Never mind. I re-read it a 4th time & thing I understand want you mean. LOL It is hard to describe. I couldn't even figure out how to do it at first.

I bought it in January of this year with my Christmas bonus. It was last year's model. I chose not to get the newfangled one because it was more $$. I sometimes wish I had spent the extra $$ to get the one that you don't have to fiddle with.

Does anyone have a factory reconditioned Dyson?

Overstock has a factory reconditioned Dyson right now for $279.99 ( $265.99 with the O club) with free shipping and 90 days same as cash with the bill me later option. I really want one of these and was wondering if this is a good deal.

Thanks
