I have a Kenmore canister vacuum that I really like but sometimes it feels too big to lug out. There are days that I need just a quick clean-up but cannot bring myself to dragging the vacuum from the basement. We have a small house and cannot store it upstairs. I am also having joint problems so would really like something lighter.

I am looking at the Dyson slim vacuum but cannot bring myself to pay the $300 for it :scared1: . Are there any smaller vacuums that do just about the same job but will save me money?

I think the Dyson is the biggest scam going these days. If it were me I would look for Oreck or dirt devil depending on your budget.

I have a dirt devil hand held and it doesn't even compare to my Dyson handheld. I don't even bother with the dirt devil anymore. The only drawback to the dyson is the price and the battery life isn't long enough. What do you need the little vacumn for. If you don't need good suction the dirt devil may do the job. It you want great suction so every little bit gets sucked up the Dyson handheld is the only handheld I have found that will do that.

I want it for quick clean ups such as something that is spilled, dirt tracked in, etc. I have found a Hoover and one other on Amazon that is ranked high.

I bought a Hoover Linx for non-carpeted (hard wood and tile) surfaces and a Dyson for my carpet. I love the Linx! I will say that the battery charge lasts about 15 minutes, but that is long enough for me to do the clean ups that I need. I have actually found that if I need a quick once over on the carpets the Linx can do that too. I pull out my big, heavy Dyson for all the deep cleaning. All in all, the Linx was definitely a good buy for me. Is the battery time a bit of a pain - yes - I constantly have my eye on how much charge I have left, but the cordless aspect of it more then outweighs that!

I agree! Plus, they never get good reviews on consumer sites.

If you just need this vacuum for small clean up jobs, get a cheaper one. Try checking these out on Amazon; the buyer reviews there are very helpful.

I love my handheld Dyson - I got it on the clearance rack at Super Target for (drum roll............) $75!!! It was the "old" model. My brother bought on for my parents on ebay for I want to say close to the same. Keep an eye out for end-of-the-model sales and check ebay or Craig's list.

I have an Electrolux cordless I picked up at Costco and while I like it and it gets the job done, it doesn't quite have the suction power I was hoping for. I find myself still having to go back with the broom for leftovers. I don't know how long it will hold a charge as I have it on the charger in the morning room right off the kitchen and use it for less than ~10min each time to do a quick clean of the kitchen/dining/morning room/laundry room. I have 2 big furry dogs that shed everywhere and it is pretty good at getting the fur up but doesn't quite get everything.

I have the Dyson DC28 for my carpet and I love that thing. I am thinking about buying the Dyson cordless if I can find it cheaper just so I can compare the two but like you can't stomach the thought of paying $300for it. :scared1:
