Oh no! Not another Dyson question!

OK ... I think I finally have convinced myself to buy a Dyson vacuum. I have been "lusting" after one for quite a while. I want one with the turbine head to help get cat fur off of things, so I am limited to the DC14 Animal, Full Gear or Full Kit, DC15 Animal or Full Kit and the DC17 Animal. The DC15 is more expensive but I liked the way it felt. It felt lighter and easier to push than the DC17. BUT ... even though I now want to buy Dyson the thought of buying the most expensive one is making me think hummm .

So ... you have a Dyson DC15 Ball? Did you have a regular Dyson before it? Do you like your vacuum? Do you find the turbine head to be a plus? Do you have a DC17? Is the new suction system worth it?

Thanks everyone!

I have had my Dyson for a couple of yrs and love it. I dont know which one i have but it is purple and red. I have to say, the Dyson is the best vac i have owned. The only thing I dont like about it is the attachment process. It takes a bit of work to put the attachments on the hose, at least on my model. I am thinking that i read or saw a new model and this problem was corrected.

what the hey, I'll jump on this thread and see where it goes, since the DC15 animal is the one I'm eyeballing (well, have to convince DH it's a good idea, of course).

I have one of the original purple dysons, and two shedding dogs (one long hair, one short). It has a pet hair attachment, but what I have found works the best is the attachment that has the red lint brush on it. I use that and never mess with the pet hair part. It is amazing how much better a sofa looks without dog hair all over it.

Just be careful and not pay more for one of the higher model numbers for no reason. The differences betwen most models is simply the attachments. The 17 uses a different connection at the bottom, but the rest is basically the same.

I have the DC15 ball (yellow) and I like it. I tried the basic yellow version (DC07?)and the ball version at the store and I liked the way the ball was easier to turn around corners etc. I have no complaints about it so far and I've had it for 18 months.

Thanks! The problem is that I really do want the attachments. I think the turbine head will come in handy for cat fur and the low reach floor tool will be great for my hardwood floors and under the couch and TV stand.

I thought about buying a more base model and adding on the other attachments. It would cost me at least $60 to get those attachments off of eBay. I have a 20% coupon from Bed, Bath and Beyond so if the unit is $100 more I'm only spending $20 more (instead of $80 instead of $60) to have the vacuum and the attachments I want now and not have to spend time trying to get a great deal off of eBay.

Thought I'd revive this thread, 6 months later to see how everyone is doing with their Dysons. I'm about ready to buy one, but now they have all those new models.

How does the DC15 compare with the new DC18 slim, DC17, DC21 canister...?

I have a DC14 and really like it. I forget to use the other vacuum heads. I use the attachments for the stairs. (I don't care what vacuum you have, stairs are a pain!) We spent some time cleaning long hair off (out of?) the brush. I didn't realize how much of my own hair had been vacuumed up. I love emptying the thing & seeing all the cat hair and scattered litter! I love not having bags, I'd rather empty it.

LOL I think I'm going to like emptying it, too...:rotfl:

I ended up with a DC17 Animal from Sears. It's silver with purple highlights. My experience has been so-so. It's not the best thing since sliced bread, that's for sure. It's really not a whole lot better than my previous vacuum (a Fantom Fury) and it was very, very expensive. I don't use the attachments very often, but the turbine "animal" brush is really good for getting cat hair off of my dining room chairs. I like that I can turn off the power head from the front of the unit when I go over the fringe on my carpet or when I use it on my hardwood. The hose comes out easily and I use it a lot as-is without attachments. It's also pretty easy to empty.

It's OK I guess, but I am not as happy with it as others are with theirs.

DH just bought me the DC17 after our Hoover Windtunnel died. Don't know how it compares to the other Dyson's, but this one does much better than the Hoover ever did!!

They are pricey though.

I just got a DC 17 animal a couple weeks ago and absolutely love it. So far the best vacuum I've ever owned. What sold me on it is the 5yr warranty. The Sears guy said they never have any problems with Dyson honoring it. The only con to me is I wish there was some sort of handle for grasping to carrying up and downstairs.

I have the DC14 All Floors, I got it a month ago. We like it but I dont often use all my attachments. It isnt as easy to push, pull around as my old hoover canister vac. I am constantly grossed out by how much is in the cup. I like it but its more of a $100 like, not the $365 like but dysons arent $100.

Thanks for all your opinions! I've narrowed it down to the DC15 and the DC17...

This is a great site I found:

Dyson Buying Guide

Just bought the Dyson 14 and I LOVE it, I agree with the PP that what's in the canister is nine shades of nasty - but in a sick kind of pleasurable way.

The best price I found was at www.factorydirectsuperstore.com, super customer service and I got my vac in five business days.

Can't help with comparing the other models, I wanted the DC14 because of the longer cord and hose length. I don't have pets, just three messy children and a husband that is a grown up version of Pig Pen from the Peanuts cartoon.

Good luck - I know that vacuum shopping can be a pain!

Wow! Thanks for the review on that place. I've come across it on my many, many searches, but it's nice to hear of someone who actually ordered from them...their prices seem a bit...unreal! LOL!

Cryssi - yes, their prices are UNBELIEVABLE. I contacted them several times, because I wanted to make sure they were NIB vacs, not refurbished. The cynic in me was positive there was something "off". But, they are legit. Super duper helpful, also.

Good luck!

Thanks Twingle! I looked them up and it seems like a lot of people had terrible experiences with them, but yours sounds like it was perfect...maybe you just have to keep on them? Hard to say, but I'm so glad that you have a positive review! Perhaps I will give them a call... :)
