Dyslexia or normal?

I took a child psychology class last semester and I remember reading that it's normal for kids to write backwards up until second grade.

My DS, now 13 is diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dysgraphia. The later relates to writing. He has a very hard time with writing. When he first started writing when he was little he wrote everything backwards and from right to left (like Chinese). It was very odd. His preschool teacher, who was my kindergarden teacher said to just watch him. A lot of the time it will go away. Well, he finally got tested a few years ago and in fact has both. He has the majority of the signs that they list. We just constantly remind him which way things are to go. He does write the correct way now, left to right. Also, now that he's older he will ask which weay a letter or number should go if he's not sure. He also is several grades behind in reading, although getting much better. One of the things that has really helped him with his reading is his Playstation 2. In the games he plays there is a lot of reading and we have him try first. We would help when he needed it. Now he reads most all of it himself. He's in all special ed. classes and things are modified for him.

IMO, I would watch her and see how things go. If you don't see any improvement or want to ease yourself, then you can always have her tested to see if she infact is Dyslexic.

Good Luck with whatever you decide to do!!:D

Both my DD and DS did this. It is common, especially if they are left handed. I wrote on paper their names, the letters and numbers, and each night I would have them finger trace them to give them "hand memory." I agree with the others. keep contact with the teacher. You may even want to write her a note, so he/she could reassure you.
