Dyed too dark, eek!

Ugh...

This weekend I colored my hair because my parents wanted to have family photos done. I grabbed my haircolor at the store and did the deed Saturday night for Sunday pics. While I sat waiting my 25 minutes, I happened to notice on the box that I had medium golden BROWN hair dye, as opposed to my normal medium golden BLONDE hair color.

THis seems just so petty in comparison to some other poster's issues, but I never realized what a huge difference the two colors would make, and how awful I look with such dark hair! I hate hate hate it, but have no idea if there's anything that can be done at this point that wouldn't completely ruin my hair.

Any suggestions from "been there, done that" people, or hairdressers??

Prell shampoo supposedly helps strip out dye.

Wash over and over and over again with it.

This is why I don't dye my own hair anymore. I am horrible at it, and have done the same thing you have, and worse. I did it to dark once too, and I had to bite the bullet and go to the salon to have it taken out. It didn't fully come out, but it was much better.

I wish more than anything I could afford to have it done at the salon, but I just don't have the available funds for that I hated spending the 13 bucks on the home-dye kit, even!

When my daughter saw it on Sunday, she said, "It looks... red." Which is true, it has these really fake-looking red highlights in the sun. Oy.

There is a product you can buy called OOPS!! it takes out hair dye with out the harsh chemicals.

I keep a box on hand just in case. You can get it at most Walgreens/CVS/Walmarts it works pretty good.

There is a product called L’Oreal’s Color Zap for blunders such as yours. I've heard the Head and Shoulders works well too if you used a semi-permanent colour.

My friend is a haidresser and she swears by Dawn dishwashing liquid, but I think only in the first 24 hours. If you try it, make sure you super condition.

to you OP. I've just recently started dyeing my hair, using the stuff that washes out in so many washes. I really don't have the funds to have it done professionally, and I always feel like the girl who cuts my hair is giving me the evil eye, because I'm sure she knows I'm coloring it.

Hope you can get it straightened out.

Call a stylist they have a chemical that will remove most of the dye from your hair. It is a new product the girls were talking about the last time I was in.

Obviously not. If I had, I wouldn't be in this pickle, would I?

It was a product of a quick run-in to Rite Aid to grab the kit. Their method of shelving items is... unique. Not that I'm blaming them for my inattention; I just need to make sure to schedule more time in my day to allow for "quick run-ins" like this.

IF YOU'RE BRAVE...

Buy a box of Loreal hair color remover and a bottle of your usual color. Apply the remover just like you would your normal colr. Ignore the instructions in that regard. Just watch how long you leave it on or you'll be a real bleach bonde. Then recolor. My wife prefers the loreal color remover to Oops as long as you watch the timing.
