DxDP 9 Day Mother&Daughter Bday trip updated w/Final Thoughts

Dinner - Kona

The Pre-Trip plans

and also the reason for the whole trip. Since we ate here the first time, on the 08 all she has talked about was eating here again. Last year she asked to go here for her birthday dinner, didn’t happen, I took her and 3 of her friends to the Melting Pot and then she and I went to the Farm Show in Harrisburg the next day. This year she is getting her wish. My choices will be surprise surprise the crab cakes, The shrimp and scallops and the Coconut cream tart.

The birthday girl will probably choice fish, chicken noodle soup and tofutti. Hopefully they can bring it to her in the Kona cone or at least with some of the cotton candy.
The Actual

Bread - great we love this bread - she says good, I say awesome

disney692.jpg

Me

APP - Crabcake - these look nothing like the ones that I had last time or the ones that I had seen other pictures of on the review board. The taste was ok, there was no pizzazz and the salad or greens on the side was mostly onions.

disney694.jpg

ENTREE - the shrimp and scallops - I had these last time I was here and really enjoyed them this time they just seemed to be thrown in a bowl on top of rice, there was no sauce - the flavor of everything was good but the presentation was a few steps down from last time.

disney697.jpg

DESSERT - I ordered the fondue to go - we ate it for breakfast the next day. along with an extra loaf of bread they packed up for us.

BEVERAGE - a virgin raspberry colada.

Check came to $ 78.30
Total that would have been spent had we done this OOP $ 1032.68

Day 8 Monday January 17th and our last full day here

Breakfast will be at Chef Mickey’s.- a new one for us.

This was a request she had, and I didn’t have much hope as I had read many bad reviews of the place.

The birthday girl - eggs, waffles, silk, fruit, meat and a birthday cupcake. - good

Me - eggs, bagel, hot tea, bowl of cereal, cheese blintz, I’m sure something else, but never took pictures of our plates so I don’t know what
Check came to $ 47.91
Total that would have been spent had we done this OOP $ 1080.59

Lunch - Garden View Lounge Afternoon Tea

Well it isn’t really lunch but we are making it so. We did the tea on our trip in 08 just the two of us while her brother was doing rides in MK.

The Birthday Girl

Had the Mrs Pott’s Tea

She choose the Mad Hatter Tea instead of the Chocolate milk. Had the kids finger sandwiches and a dish or strawberries.

disney722.jpg

disney724.jpg

Her thoughts - good

I had the Buckingham Palace

I choose Vanilla Rooibos tea, it has been a favorite of mine since our tea here in 08.

I had The Pear and Gorgonzola, watercress and cucumber, and shrimp salad tea sandwiches, I don’t like egg salad or curry so I got an additional and pear an additional watercress one instead. These are very good I love the sandwiches and the little onion tart.

disney723.jpg

Then I got a scone with cream and strawberry jam. Very good

Then I got to choose two pastries and I chose a cream puff swan with pina colada mousse and a little cake with apricot, raspberries and almond paste. Both excellent choices, I loved them both.

Breakfast - Kona Café

The Pre-trip plans

Our flight doesn’t leave till six so we will have most of the day to do things. But the only meal I scheduled is breakfast. We have never done breakfast here, no matter how many people rave about the Tonga toast, my banana allergy rules out me trying that. So I will probable go with the macadamia nut pancakes, hopefully I can get some scrambled eggs in place of the meat on the side. And the birthday girl will probably choose the Goofy toast, she loves when I do that at home.

The Actual

The Birthday Girl

Ordered the Donald’s Choice - scrambled egg toast and fruit + the meat from mom’s
disney757.jpg

disney758.jpg

She had silk to drink. - Good, wished there was more ham, she like that the best of the three meats.

Me

I order the Big Kahuna and had them put the meat on a separate plate for her to eat. I ordered the Lilikoi Juice and hot tea. The waiter here made a big deal about me not being able to order two drinks any longer at breakfast, I told him I was planning on paying for the second one, and he said I didn’t have to he just wanted me to know for the future. He was really snippy about the whole thing. Because that tea bag and hot water probably cost $.08.

disney759.jpg

I cant find the reciept for here, i will try and find it later an add the cost.
Lilo and stich were running around Kona and the upstairs lobby as Ohana was closed due to the floor being redone.

Great reviews :goodvibes

I really want to try breakfast at Kona, it looks great

Lunch - The last meal we had planned on eating in florida this trip

We ended up with two extra credits left at this point since we had canceled that one breakfast

I really didn’t want to eat much before we flew so we ordered one counter service meal at The POP century food court

Veggie lo mein, and tye-died cheesecake, and a silk for the birthday girl, I got iced tea with the refillable mugs. It was ok, I make better lo mein, but it was what she wanted. - ok, moms is better.

We used the other credit to trade for 3 snacks, not the best use of a DxDP credit, but we took the snack home with us.

We used most of our snack credits for things to take home.
Rice crispie treats, Minnie's cookies, Goofy's candy etc
