i love comparing your plans with your actual food - what a great idea - every trip we have places we are longing for or dishes we are 'sure to have' and then end up changing our minds. ;)

The Pre-trip plans

For my app, I will probably go with the crab cakes yet again. Entree as much as I would lake the lobster, the thought of cracking it across the table from the girl that is allergic to shellfish, scares me so I will probably go with the crab crusted flounder, even though I have never had flounder, the only fish I really don’t like are trout and tuna. I really want to try two desserts here so we will have to see, its either going to be the creme brulee duo or the almond crusted cheesecake...oh the choices we have to make. The birthday girls choices I am guessing will be the soup for her app, (that girl could live on soup), The Filet Mignons and if the veggie is asparagus or peas, it will make her night. And either the make your own s’mores or sorbet. The Actual

Bread - a good sourdough - this time served with butter with black salt, - good, birthday girl thought the black salt tasted a little weird

disney501.jpg

The Birthday Girl

APP - Chicken noodle soup - good
disney502.jpg

ENTREE - filet Mignon with asparagus and mashed potatoes - good

disney504.jpg

DESSERT - make your own s’mores - good

disney506.jpg

BEVERAGE - Hot tea

Me

APP - Crab cakes - with southern slaw and Cajun Remoulade sauce, very good, sauce didn’t taste spicy like I was expecting, slaw was good, crab cakes were good, not to much filler.

disney503.jpg

ENTREE - I decided to go with the lobster, she wanted me to because she want to see the whole thing, it came with asparagus and mac and cheese, the lobster was the worst I have ever eaten, it was so tough I couldn’t cut through it with a steak knife, only ate a few bites of the claw, the tail was just to tough, and it was completely tasteless. But the mac and cheese it came with was out of this world and the saving grace of the entree.

disney505.jpg

DESSERT- I went with the Creme brulee duo - key lime and coconut flavors, they were both ok, decent flavor. I make better

disney508.jpg

BEVERAGE - pot of hot tea.

Check came to $ 120.97
Total that would have been spent had we done this OOP $ 717.87

The service here sucked, food was dropped off by different people, our waiter never checked on us till it was time to take the dessert order

Sorry to hear about the lobster and service at Narcoosse's. We had a magical meal here in 2008 for DH birthday. Waiter was superb. It's my DD choice for her birthday dinner too! Here's hoping you just caught them on a bad night.
Nikki

Great review! Sorry about the bad meal. We had a bad experience with the Narcoosee's surf n turf (and the meat was worse than the lobster), so I suppose if we ever go back I won't be touching Narcoosee's lobster anymore.

Great reviews! I have similar lactose intolerance symptoms as your daughter, Disney is great with dairy substitutes, aren't they? At Beaches and Cream, I got to have a non-dairy malt - I never even knew that could be dreamed up! :thumbsup2

Day 6 - January 15th

We will again be attempting one of those 3 meal days.

Breakfast - Captain’s Grill.

The Pre-Trip plans

I was going the crab cakes egg benedict (my favorite way to have crab cakes) but recently I saw an updated menu, I would be disappointed but they replaced it with a Lobster Omelet, Yipee. The birthday girl will probably choice the fruit plate, but then again might go with the waffles.

The Actual

After my terrible lobster the night before I was afraid to order the omelet as planned. We both decided to go with the buffet.

The Birthday girl had Mickey waffle, bagel, ham, fruit, scrambled eggs, mini muffins and a hard boiled egg, she had silk to drink. Everything was good.

I had hot tea, mickey waffle, a pancake, scrambled egg, English muffin, a bowl of cereal and cranberry juice.

With the check they brought out too helium balloons attached to a bag of hard candy.

Check came to $ 28.74
Total that would have been spent had we done this OOP $ 746.61

$841 , Dont forget that is the total to date, and included 2 signature meals at this point. And there have been no counter service meals, all TS

Dinner - Garden Grill.

The pre-trip plans

NO choices to make for here. This again will be new to us, but how can you go wrong with a meal that starts with bread and maple butter.

The Actual - We got both the adult platter and the kids plate and shared. The food was very good. I didn’t like the Mahi Mahi but the turkey was very good, sides were good. The cobbler was very good and we were able to get real sweet tea here. For the Birthday girls dessert since the kids dessert was dairy filled, they made her a similar one using toffutti instead of the oreo mousse.
This meal had great character interaction. They all came around several times. Altough their were some rodents with behavior problems...putting salt and pepper in bread baskets, stealing straws, turning silverware into drumsticks....etc....
Overall Birthday girl thought it was good

Day 7 - Sun January 16th or Should I call it Birthday Day

Breakfast - Grand Floridian Café.

The Pre-trip plans

I am really debating here as to have the lobster egg benedict or the Citrus pancakes, we see what mood strikes me that morning. Since there are steak and eggs on the adult menu and she will now be 10, I am sure she will try to convince the waiter(ess) to let her have steak and eggs, and when she has no luck I will convince her to order eggs, so she has some protein before eating cake for breakfast ....LOL.

The Actual

The Birthday Girl - they gave her a copy of the adult menu so she was very happy

ENTREE - Steak and Eggs - Twin filet, breakfast potatoes, sausage egg frittata and herb cream sauce -delicious

disney612.jpg

BEVERAGE - virgin Strawberry daiquiri - good
disney611.jpg

Me

ENTREE Citrus Pancakes - these were very good I substituted eggs for the sausage and was very happy with by choice.

disney614.jpg

disney613.jpg

BEVERAGE - hot tea

And DESSERT - I ordered the mini wedding cake for her birthday - she was thrilled and very surprised since I had told her we wouldn’t have a cake today. We had, had a cake with her brother before he went back to school. I was very very good. Perfect for two even though they say it is only 1 serving. It was very good very happy with my choice to have breakfast at the GF so i could order her cake from here.

Cost - $30 did not include in total.

Lunch

Pre-trip plans

Lunch today was supposed to take us to the Cont Resort for the Wave. But after reading M-J's Mommy review she saw the cookie pizza at Mama Melrose’s and wanted that for her Birthday lunch. We dined her on our first trip in 06. So it will be a repeat for us. I will go with the caesar salad and the chicken parm, and cheesecake. She will have the soup, pasta and cookie pizza I am guessing.

The Actual

The Birthday Girl
the bread and dipping oil

disney625.jpg

disney626.jpg

APP - she didn’t want one
ENTREE- she ordered a flatbread pizza with basil pesto and the grilled chicken - not really on the menu but they very willingly made it for her - we kind of shared both entrees - she said both were really good
DESSERT - order the cookie pizza, but got that and the chocolate cannoli cake, since they couldn’t figure out how to put a candle in the cookie pizza - The cookie was good and she had a lot of fun decorating it, the cake, kind of so-so it was alright - looked 10 times better then it tasted.
BEVERAGE- iced tea

Me

APP - caesar salad very good, crisp lettuce, just the right amount of dressing

disney627.jpg

ENTREE - the chicken parm with pasta, very good, moist flavorful piece of chicken, we actually shared both entrees and the flat bread was very good too
DESSERT - Chocolate amerrato cheesecake, not on the menu posted on all ears but was on the menu the day we were there, very good, I actually had bites of all three desserts

What a great report!

I have a Mother/Daughter trip planned for this summer, when my DD turns 12. She is 5'3" tall at the age of 11 - and looks like she's 15 - so I feel your pain!!

We will be at WDW 12 days/11 nights and are doing the regular DDP - and a lot of our ADR's are ones you did, as well, so your reviews are very helpful.

And I laughed at reading your DD is a carnivore - so is mine. I love seafood; she loves meat. So, your respective choices at the restaurants will mirror what we choose, as well!

Great update! :goodvibes
