I am going to start with a little background. This was a trip for two, me and my daughter who turned 10 while we were there. She is in the fifth grade and is already 5' 1" tall, and looks about 13 or 14. This is our third trip but the first time going with out her brother, he is a sophomore in college and has to be back to class the day before we leave. I am a single mom and have been since my son was born 20 yrs ago, so I am very used to traveling alone with kids or kid as is the case on this trip. The trip was also a surprise to her, she didn’t find out we were going until Christmas morning. We stayed at all star Movies the last two trips, but we are staying at Pop Century this trip, ever since she saw a picture of the large container of play doh she has wanted to stay here. Some day I will stay at a resort other then a value, but that will be if we ever stop doing the parks from rope drop to near closing or closing every night, and actually have time to spend at the resort. We are also flying for the first time (ever), usually we take the train.

We are also trying out DxDP for the first time. I was playing with the idea of this trip for her birthday and when free dining came out I booked it. I upgraded us to DxDP from the “free” QS plan for $432, I had been wanting to try this plan, and it will be my last chance before she is a Disney “adult”. Our first trip in 2006 we had the old plan that included appetizers and tip, then in 2008 we used the Regular dining plan, the tips and apps were out, but about 2 months before our trip and after I had already paid for it in full, I got a pin code for FREE DINING, covering our November trip, I called and they sent me back a check in the amount of what I had paid for the dining plan. Yippee.

I am really looking forward to this trip it will be our first Girls Vacation. And the girl loves good food and she enjoys helping me cook. I would not have attempted a DxDDP with her brother, he would much rather be on the go and grab a quick burger. He likes good food as long as it is quick, but 3 sit downs a day he never would have made it through.

We will be have a visit from the chef at each restaurant, since my daughter has a shellfish allergy and is lactose intolerant. I am allergic to bananas and do not eat any red meat, I do eat seafood and chicken and turkey, but no beef, pork, venison etc. I have found table services much easier to deal with the allergies. On our last trip she was totally off Dairy as they thought it was a Dairy allergy, a few weeks after we got home we figured out it was only an intolerance. She can have yogurt and small amounts of cheese with out it bothering her, but ice cream or a glass of milk our totally out of the question, she drinks silk, and prefers the original lite flavor over the chocolate or vanilla, and eats tofutti ice cream. And if she want a dairy heavy meal she will take a lactaid pill and do just fine.

I made all of our ADR’s at the 180 day mark, even before the trip was booked and a definite go. When asked her age, I said nine on the days before her birthday on the ADR’s and 10 on her birthday and the days afterwards. Did a little tweaking along the way, as menus changes, and as I would catch her saying little things along the way, like next time we go to Disney I want to eat at.... I even got her brother into the planning back in July when I had him ask her where she would eat in Disney on her birthday is she ever got to go for it.

I have looked at all the menus, thought about what I was going to order, but will I stick to the plan, I am also guessing as to what my daughter will choose, but will I be right. Heck will we stick to this plan at all???

Our first meal is scheduled for 1:30 pm on arrival day, our flight lands in Orlando at 10:25 am, will we make it? I hope so since both of our other trips have started off with a meal here, it’s kind of become a tradition.

looking forward to your reviews. i hope to have a mother and son trip in my future . He is like your son though so no deluxe dining plan when we go.

Your ressies sound awesome! I am a mom to three girls and would love a mother/daughter trip with each of mine. Would be great for me but brutal on the pocket book  but who knows...maybe I could make it work. Hope ya'll had a great time.

I'll be reading too :goodvibes
cant wait to hear all about it.xx

Arrival Day Monday January 10th

Lunch

We arrived at MCO early, quickly made it down to the Magical Express and were on the Bus with in 2 mins of getting to that area. And we were the first resort dropped off. Check in was a breeze and our room was ready. We went to our room, dropped off our bags and headed right to Hollywood Studios. I did take a quick glance at our paperwork and it said 48 meal credits, not separated into adult and child, but would that change?

The Pre trip plan:
I am planning on ordering the grilled chicken sandwich, I would like but spinach and artichoke dip for my app, but is says for two, will they let me have it on the DxDP, we will have to see, if not I ill go with the onion rings and for dessert the peanut butter chocolate cake. Now for my daughter I am guessing a burger, veggies and fruit. But we will see. Both of us will choose ice tea to drink.

The Actual:

We were hungry since all we had really had today was tea from Starbucks at the airport, a Clif bar, and snacks on the airplane. So we went right over to see if we could check in early, but were told no, so we came back. As soon as we were seated the waitress want to see our card. She explained the dining plan to us. And had the chef come talk to us.

The birthday girl ordered off the kids menu and had

APP - cucumber salad - she picked at it said it was ok, but was very disappointed that it wasn’t the old cuc salad they had served.
ENTREE - burger with fries - good
DESSERT - chocolate toffutti ice cream - good
DRINK - pomegranate lemonade - good

Me

APP - The spinach artichoke cheese dip - was good came with the 3 colored tortilla chips, there were way to many chips for the amount of dip or I put too much dip on each chip, dip finished, a lot of chips left. Birthday girl shared some of the chips.
ENTREE - grilled chicken sandwich with cuc salad - I ordered this with out the bruschetta - good well cooked, filling sandwich, the cuc salad was ok, but I LOVED, LOVED, Loved the old cuc melon salad that they used to have, so much that I asked for the recipe on our last trip and make it frequently at home. When I asked for it, they said it’s a rather large quantity recipe, but they would give it to me if I wanted it. Ha there large quantity was for 24 servings - I have since made this for a party in my backyard for 350, and it is requested all the time.
DESSERT - Chocolate peanut butter cake - not bad, a typical chain restaurant dessert not fancy but good, but then again chocolate cake is my least fav way to eat chocolate.
DRINK - ice tea

DS and I had a Mom & Son trip in '08 with Deluxe Dining. This is bringing back those very fond memories. Looking forward to the rest (and the pics!)

Count me in also!

I am taking my DS10 on a Mother/Son trip at the end of next month and we are (crazily) doing the DxDDP for the first four nights and then the regular DDP for the first time. We usually do QSDP, but he is piloting this trip and wants to try all of these different restaurants. A lot of people think we are nuts, but for us it is about the experience and not necessarily getting a bargain. There is no way that we can eat all of that food, but we will enjoy sampling lots :)

Loving the reviews so far and looking forward to reading more!! We are planning to eat at most of the places you are reviewing :thumbsup2

WELCOME EVERYONE!!!!

Please feel free to ask any questions, I be happy to answer them.

Dinner on day 1 brings us to the 50's prime time café.

The pretrip plan.

My plan is the crab cakes, (actually that will be my plan in any restaurant that serves them), the fried chicken, minus the greens (pork in those) and the boston cream pie parfait for dessert. My daughter I am guessing will order the chicken noodle soup, (I swear she lives on it anyway), the meatloaf, and, the ice cream sundae for dessert, made with toffutti unless they will make her a pb& j milkshake with tofutti. .

The Actual:

By the time we had gotten to dinner time we were exhausted. We had gotten up at 2 am to get the airport, we probably should have canceled, but we to tired to think so we went to eat.

The Birthday Girl (kids meal ordered)

APP - Chicken noodle soup - good
ENTREE - meatloaf - good
DESSERT - none
BEVERAGE - PB and J milkshake with toffutti. - Delicious with a big smile on her face as she says it.

APP - Crab Cake - No where on the menu did this say it had bacon on it, so I sent the first one back, to get one with out the bacon and they brought out a second plate with just the crab cake, I didn’t get the rest of the accompaniments that had come with the first. It was ok, but hard to really judge since it was missing the rest. Mine at home are better.
ENTREE - Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, and subbed corn for the greens - was really good, flavorful, nice basic food, Huge portion, I ate the breast, my daughter grabbed the leg as its her favorite.
DESSERT - none was too tired.
BEVERAGE - ice tea
Check came to $ 57.13
Total that would have been spent had we done this OOP $ 102.02

Day 2 - January 11th

We started with tea from the food court in our refillable mugs before heading to the bus. We like gold peak iced tea so we were happy.

Breakfast - Tusker House Safari Breakfast.

Her favorite character is Daisy Duck, and we have not had a chance to see her other then in parades on our last two trip, so this is a must do for the autograph. This will be our first trip here. No real preplans as it is a buffet. Her face alone when she say Daisy was worth the cost of the whole trip.

Juice - was awesome - even before we ate we decided we have to come back here for the juice alone.

We also both had hot tea to drink also, black currant for me and earl gray for her.

Food was really good, similar foods to the other breakfast with lots of wonderful additions, a rather large spread for breakfast.

Birthday girl had - ham, rice, bacon, ham, waffles, fruit, eggs, potatoes, and more ham, pantries. Juice was delicious.

Me
Cheese blintz - good, put some of the vanilla sauce on it, love it that way.
Scrambled eggs - ok, but I new they wouldn’t be that great going in.
Orange bread - good
Potatoes - good, could’ve used (more?) onions in them
and Mealie pap - I think it was called, kind of a combination between spoon corn bread and scalloped corn with cheese, some kind of corn casserole thing that was really good, wished I had asked for the recipe, I may have to track it down online, it was really good.
Im pretty sure I had some pastry or another, but since I cant remember it probably wasn’t any better then ok.

Check came to $ 38.32
Total that would have been spent had we done this OOP $ 140.34
