I am going to start with a little background. This was a trip for two, me and my daughter who turned 10 while we were there. She is in the fifth grade and is already 5' 1" tall, and looks about 13 or 14. This is our third trip but the first time going with out her brother, he is a sophomore in college and has to be back to class the day before we leave. I am a single mom and have been since my son was born 20 yrs ago, so I am very used to traveling alone with kids or kid as is the case on this trip. The trip was also a surprise to her, she didnt find out we were going until Christmas morning. We stayed at all star Movies the last two trips, but we are staying at Pop Century this trip, ever since she saw a picture of the large container of play doh she has wanted to stay here. Some day I will stay at a resort other then a value, but that will be if we ever stop doing the parks from rope drop to near closing or closing every night, and actually have time to spend at the resort. We are also flying for the first time (ever), usually we take the train.
We are also trying out DxDP for the first time. I was playing with the idea of this trip for her birthday and when free dining came out I booked it. I upgraded us to DxDP from the free QS plan for $432, I had been wanting to try this plan, and it will be my last chance before she is a Disney adult. Our first trip in 2006 we had the old plan that included appetizers and tip, then in 2008 we used the Regular dining plan, the tips and apps were out, but about 2 months before our trip and after I had already paid for it in full, I got a pin code for FREE DINING, covering our November trip, I called and they sent me back a check in the amount of what I had paid for the dining plan. Yippee.
I am really looking forward to this trip it will be our first Girls Vacation. And the girl loves good food and she enjoys helping me cook. I would not have attempted a DxDDP with her brother, he would much rather be on the go and grab a quick burger. He likes good food as long as it is quick, but 3 sit downs a day he never would have made it through.
We will be have a visit from the chef at each restaurant, since my daughter has a shellfish allergy and is lactose intolerant. I am allergic to bananas and do not eat any red meat, I do eat seafood and chicken and turkey, but no beef, pork, venison etc. I have found table services much easier to deal with the allergies. On our last trip she was totally off Dairy as they thought it was a Dairy allergy, a few weeks after we got home we figured out it was only an intolerance. She can have yogurt and small amounts of cheese with out it bothering her, but ice cream or a glass of milk our totally out of the question, she drinks silk, and prefers the original lite flavor over the chocolate or vanilla, and eats tofutti ice cream. And if she want a dairy heavy meal she will take a lactaid pill and do just fine.
I made all of our ADRs at the 180 day mark, even before the trip was booked and a definite go. When asked her age, I said nine on the days before her birthday on the ADRs and 10 on her birthday and the days afterwards. Did a little tweaking along the way, as menus changes, and as I would catch her saying little things along the way, like next time we go to Disney I want to eat at.... I even got her brother into the planning back in July when I had him ask her where she would eat in Disney on her birthday is she ever got to go for it.
