DW in June or December?

We're planning to go to DW and hopefully a Disney cruise in 2016 for my 40th birthday. I'm a teacher and the best time would be summer or Winter Break. I hate extreme weather (especially humidity) but I'm hearing it's crazy busy during the holiday season. If we were to go in mid-June would the weather be bearable enough in order to avoid holiday crowds? Our kids will be 5 and 7 by that time. Basically, which is the lesser of the two evils?

Hi,

If by "winter break" you mean now (Christmas week), it is by far the busiest week of the year at WDW.

Mid-June crowds are moderate to a little higher than moderate, and it will get busier with each passing week as more schools get out for the summer. It will indeed be hot, but the crowds will be much more manageable than they will be at this time of year.

Hope that helps...

Thanks, that does help! And yes, Winter Break (or Christmas break) is the last two weeks of December for me. Since I wanted to do WDW and a cruise that means needing to allot 2 weeks so it was either December or summertime. Unfortunately we would have to go in mid-June when school lets out for myself but if the crowds aren't as crazy as December I'll go for June!

I would go for June for two reasons. First: the crowds the week of Christmas are unbelievable (yes, I've done it, twice), and the costs also are the highest of the year. Second: for your cruise, I'd assume you'd want nice warm weather! We did the Disney cruise in March for spring break a few years ago, and did have some quite cool days (our day at the "private island" in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay, was a bit chilly for all of us). June weather would be excellent for a cruise; December may be quite chilly.

I've had miserable hot weather in June at Disney, and I've had really nice warm weather there in June. Either way, I hope you enjoy your planning and trip!

June CAN be unbearably hot, but it certainly wasn't when we were there in 2012. 7 of 8 days were low-mid 80's for a high with 91 the remaining day (and that was a water park day :thumbsup2).

Having done an April and May trip AND a busy week after Christmas trip, I would go with the crowds rather then the heat (I can't believe I'm saying that :lmao:). We will never go in that weather again, it was ridiculous. And June would be even worse. We spent so much on icy drinks and found ourselves rushing back to the resort to get in the pool instead of taking our time and enjoying the parks. Crowds are rough too but at least that way you can take your time and enjoy your surroundings instead of rushing to run in the pool. Good luck deciding!

June for me...I've lived here 13 years and the 2 weeks of Christmas are insane, pretty, but WAY too crowded. June isn't nearly as bad crowd wise:) have fun!
