DVD players in OKW 1-bedooms?

With the proliferation of DVD movies, we're wondering if OKW has any DVD players. We just bought the Grinch on DVD, and realized we can't take it with us to watch

There are VCR's but no DVD players as of yet.

Borrow a laptop from work with a DVD-ROM drive, and then plug the video out on the laptop to the video-in on the VCR!

Doesn't work for everyone, but at least it's something!

Being an IT manager, I actually considered that. Unfortunately it causes 2 problems: first, I bring my own laptop, with email, digicam software etc (but no DVD). The second problem is that I fly PanAm, and since 9/11 they allow no carryon baggage at all -- only a purse for women and a wallet for men. Their response is "check it". Yeah, and I know what shape it will be in when I arrive . So I still have to find a way to get my laptop and digicam to OKW in one piece.

We were hoping that as OKW does its periodic refurbishment & replacements, they might be adding DVDs when they remove old VCRs.

Unless they put in a combo DVD/VCR unit, I would not like to see them put in a DVD.

We have a lot more VHS tapes than DVD's. Maybe someday the VHS tapes will be dinosaurs, but for now they are still the overwhelming majority of video storage.

Peter, what about sending one down in its original packaging? Either on the plane or via Fed Ex or something?

My dh is also an IT manager....he made sure his most recent laptop for work had a DVD drive just for this purpose..lol. We drive to WDW, so we don't have the airline issue.

I've been thinking the best solution is to box up the laptop and digicam as if I were going to ship them, but then check the box as baggage. We can box them up the last day and reverse the process.

DVD passed VCR in unit sales of media earlier this year. DVD through a VCR will provide a poor picture due to copy guard. Combo units are not the answer. How about having them provide a DVD player on request.

I'd ship anything electronic via ups or fedex and insured.

I wouldn't check anything worth anything. I know that at least video and camera equipment the airlines refuse to pay for. And i would imagine that laptops would be the same. The issue typically isnt about damge but rather of the baggage handlers STEALING them. It makes you ill to think, but the lowlifes apparently watch the xray which is supposed to hunt down bombs and when they see a goody they steal it. (Long story but i know from experience...) Since the airlines refuse to held acountable they dont bother to investigate.
