DVD player help

When we put in a DVD, the player refuses to recoginize the disc. It just keeps saying "No disc". Is there a disc type cleaner, like the head cleaner we have for the VCR that is inserted into the player? The discs themselves are not dirty, so I was thinking of the laser thingie in the DVD could be dirty???

Be sure you test the machine with more than one DVD, and use a commercially recorded disc(not one you burned). Also try turning the power off on the machine for a few seconds, then turn it back on. You might also try playing an audio cd in the unit just to see if it will read that. I would use caution about using a cleaning disc--you might damage the lens.
