We have owned our DVD player for over a year and just recently it has not been working. We can either run it with sound but no picture or picture with no sound. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you fix it?

That did happen to us.
Sometimes the audio would just disappear for days at a time.
How did we fix it?
We bought another DVD player. ;)

Sometimes we break out the old one just to see if it works, and sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't.
(It's one of the old Apex DVD players - plays all region DVDs and MP3s... When it works.)

My brother had problems with his DVD player. He called the manufacturer and raised a stink. They replaced it.

we've had problems with our DVD players but it turn out it was not the player but where we had it. It's in a cabinet on top of the receiver.

We had spacers so it wouldn't overheat but that wasn't enough. After buying another DVD and it had the same problem, we decided to put a small fan - on of those cheap clip on fan thats about 8 inches in diameter to the door of the cabinet. When we play out DVD, we fire up the fan. Works like a charm.

Check the circulation, it may be overheating.

I second that wdw4us. We had the same issue with our DVD and it was in an open cabinet with lots of room between components. DH ended up with a small fan as well for when he runs EVERYTHING (all at once at times DVD,TIVO,RECIEVER,AMP,VCR and CABLE BOX)...LOL
We also got rid of the cabinet when we became the proud parents of an HDTV 48" and the components are stacked on top of eachother on a wood box next to the new HD Baby. we have not needed the fan since. I swear if the techie geeks come out with another gimmie gotchie for the tv before I get a trip to Disney someone is going to die and I think the TV will be my first victim.

LOL Women of the world Unite!
Or in other words.... I can relate!

YES!!!

I bought a Sony DVD player about two years ago. I was playing my "Ocean's 11" DVD (George Clooney in a black t-shirt, be still my pounding heart) and my DVD player just stopped in the middle of it! It just won't play anymore, and it was cheaper to buy another DVD player than to have that one fixed.

I guess this is a common problem?
