Hi All,

We have a portable DVD player, and I was thinking about buying some headphones for it for our daughter on car trips. We also want to get ones that will have good sound quality for an airplane, as well. Since our dd is only 2.5, I don't think that the earbuds would work very well. Anyone have any suggestions for these? I know they have the really expensive noise reduction ones, but I'd hate to spend 50-60.00. Plus, I think they would be too big for her head and ears. Any ideas for a quality headphone for younger kids?

Also, she has never worn earphones before, so I'll probably need to get her used to them. Not sure how to do this, either. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks everyone!!

Bumping cuz I want to know also. Bought some last year at Target for about $10 and I couldn't hear a thing out of them on the plane. Looking for some good ones for our next trip.

We found ours were no good on a plane either and they were pricey. The person sitting in front of me, was obviously enjoying her movie, and all I could hear was the plane noise. I asked and she shared she got hers from Walmart. They go right in the ear, and cost about $6.00. We've tried them out, and they are wonderful.

we've bought a few pair for $4 at walmart or kmart... never had a problem w/outside noise... another thought is one of those "my first" cd players that come w/headphones as they are made for children and less fragile and better fitting...

I don't know the brand of the kind I will describe but my kids fought over them the last few years till they finally gave out this summer. They were the big kind (think back when we were kids listening to phonics tapes in kindergarten ;) They were a cheap brand from Wal-mart or Target but they really stayed put on their little heads and blocked the sound out because of the big rubberized cushion around the ears. I hope that makes sense? :goodvibes

I got my DD3 a pair from a company called KidzGear. They were $19.99 with free shipping from http://www.gearforkidz.com. They fit her perfectly and the sound quality is excellent. They were shipped very quickly. We have used them on a few long trips with both our DVD player and our MP3 player and have had no problems.

We just bought a pair of earphones for our twin DD's age 8. I bought them from Walmart. We think they work great because they are the kind that go right in the ear. They are not earbuds because they have a head strap that goes behind the head. They are made by maxell and I think we paid $6 for them.

My DH and I just got back from a trip and I used the earphones to watch a movie on my laptop. They worked beautifully. I even had to turn down the volumn to about 1/2 because it was too loud.

Good Luck

Thanks so much for the great replies, this advice has helped a lot! I'm thinking of buying the cheaper ones first. If they don't work for us, then I'm not out a ton of money. Thanks again! :sunny:

I really liked the ones from Radio Shack, because they had their own volume controls. We use them in the car and on airplanes. Becauce we use a splitter and both kids watch at the same time, and one likes it a little louder while the other doesn't. This way, they can increase the volume of their own, without affecting the other person.

I believe they were $16 - $19 a pair. But well worth it!

Margaret - Thanks for the tip for the Radio Shack ones. We are also using a splitter so I will have to look into those.

I see you are going on the Freedom of the Seas Cruise next year. You must be on one of the first cruises. I have been reading a lot about this cruise ship and it looks awesome. This kids pool area looks great. We are looking to take our kids on this ship for their first cruise hopefully in 2007 (already have Disney trip planned for next year). I love reading about all the new info on this ship. The bigger the better. Went on Adventure of the Seas this year for our 10 year anniversary. It was great. I love cruising (and Disney).

Lynnth,

Actually, the Freedom starts sailing next May, and we will sail on her in November of '06, so hopefully any kinks she has will be ironed out before we go.

We will be sailing this November on the Mariner, and I can't wait. We have done three 7 days Disney cruises with our kids (7 & 9) and want to try something different. And I am getting a Junior Suite for less than I got a category 6 for on Disney.

Disney will have to come out with a new ship for us to sail with them again.

Of course, we love going to WDW, that will never ever change!

These are also the ones we got. I finally remembered to look.
