Maybe someone here can help. My dvd-rw(NEC 6500A- in a Dell Inspiron 1150) won't burn to dvd anymore but will burn fine to cd. I get an error, whether I'm trying to burn pictures or copy home movie dvd's, I get an error asking to retry/use a different disc. I've made many dvd copies in the past- I have 3-4 copies of each of my home movies. I went out and bought some brand new Sony DVD-R discs and have some Fuji- neither work. :confused3

What software are you using to do the burning? Is there a selection for cd or dvd? Could be a couple of different things, try reinstalling the driver for the burner.

what brand of disks did you use before...

sometimes certain brands just won't work with some burners..

are you sure it's -r and not +r

Mine at work stopped as well. No rhyme or reason. I think it has to do with windows updates...

recently my laptop drive also stopped working. But it stopped completely. The tech guy deleted something in the registry (I think). Upon reboot the drivers, or whatever it was, was restored automaticaly and it works fine now.

Some exact wording would be helpful too. Exact error messages are handy because you can just toss 'em into Google and usually you'll find an answer quickly. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the replies. I usually use the Fuji or TDK -R but have used many kinds. My PC is very particular about discs! I get that same error message on there sometimes, too, but if I keep putting the back disc in it will eventually take it(a pain!) I have Sonic Record Now as my burning software(it came with the computer). I tried looking up the burner and it said NOT to update the driver:confused3 Of course- Dell is of NO help once its out of warranty. I'll have to try googling the error message. Next stop will be taking it in and getting it cleaned up! 3 years of junk buildup. Thanks:)
