DVCer's & new tickets - NOT HAPPY

I, for one, am way not happy with the new ticket options. We try to go once a year for a 6 day stay since we bought into DVC in 2000. Once we've been able to do one 6 day stay, and another 3 night stay within a year.
Depending on how a DVC family vacations, the new ticket options can be considered an advantage or not. The way I see it - it is just a way for Disney to make more money. I can't believe I have to pay $35 per person per ticket for more than one park per day on my passes and $15 per person per ticket on top of that to make it unexpirable for a 4 day pass & another $35 for a five day pass!!!! That's insane. I'm really ticked about this - that's a $50 - $70.00 increase per ticket! We usually just buy 4 or 5 day park hoppers and use 2 or three days in the parks per trip, thereby enabling us to get almost two vacations out of each ticket purchase. With these new ridiculous prices the AP is a better buy.....but not really, because we more often than not won't get there more than once in a year, and our stays are not long enough to use them. I think it's terrible that Disney is basically forcing vacationers like us to spend more money for the same time spent in the parks, just because they want to encourage longer stays per vacation. I feel like I'm being penalized because I can't get there more often. Why not offer longer stay vacationers different perks and leave the tickets for shorter stays alone!? We'll be using the parks alot less then in the past, that's for sure. Hopefully I'm missing something here, if the way I understand it is the way it is - I'm going over to "that other park" more than I used to for sure!

If you go once a year, the AP can indeed work for you. Just plan your next year's trip for 51 weeks from this years. Thus you'll get two 6-day visits out of one AP.

With the new ticket structure, as a DVC'er who regularly goes to WDW, you have NO incentive to buy a ticket that is shorter than 7-10 days IF you want to by the non-expiration option. I think that if you look at the 7 day tickets you will not spend much more than the five day tickets and will end up saving loads of money in the long run. As I recall, the 7 day ticket is $199+35 for PH+55 for non-expiration. That's $289 + tax which is a lot less than the 7 day PHP normal advance purchase price right now (you don't get the plus options, but you also don't pay for them). If you are buying the regular PH passes, you aren't buying the pluses anyway. We just bought 5 day PHP for $242 including tax as I recall. That is slightly less than $50 per day. With the new passes, you can get 7 day PH that don't expire for about $300, or put another way you get days 6 and 7 that don't expire for about $25 per day over what you are currently paying. Seems like a good deal to me, and an option that is not available in the current pass structure.

You can stock up on passes now, for use in the future.

I like the new tickets, a little.

I do see where the pricing structure is directly related to real costs to Disney.

If one wants the days to not expire, Disney has to maintain the information in their computer for however long the person holds the ticket for, so it is fair to charge for this. I am expecting security to significantly improve, taking more resources to implement. (Especially if they implement the bio scan feature)

If a person switches parks, they go through security another time, leading to actual cost to Disney. Of course, if one goes in and out of the same park multiple times, it probably costs the same. Maybe they will charge for this, at some future point.
One does get more hours of park use, by park hopping. At least I do (if I am not too exhausted).

An alternative would have been for Disney to just raise the price, on the current ticket structure, so that we all paid for all the current features, even if we didn't need or use them.

I like the new tickets. While APs were, and remain, the best option for us (because we spend 20 to 25 days in the parks per year)...the new tickets are a good value for when we take guests. We rarely park hop, and our guests don't return with us for several years, so if they get a base ticket for the actual lengths of our stay, no hopping, without the no expiration option, it will save them $$$.

Anyone think the new ticket structure will cost renters more because they usually only rent from Sunday to Friday? If they go 7 days, they get a better breakdown on the ticket.

You can still configure your tickets the same as previously bought. Maybe a slight increase in some cases. Mostly, they're cheaper. The big advantage is flexibility to only buy what you want. We only go to the parks, so we're not paying for pluses now. Under the old format, we were forced to buy pluses on any 6+ day ticket.

I've actually done an excel spreadsheet for all the possible ticket combinations and prices.(Where's the geek smilie?) As an apples to apples comparison, here's how a 4 and 5 day park hopper with no expiration date compare.

Old 4 day = 219 + tax
New 4 Day=235 + tax

Old 5 Day= $249 + tax
New 5 Day=263 +tax

both represent about a 7% increase over last year for the same item. While an increase, it is not $50-$70 more per ticket. And keep in mind, there are a tickets which are actually less expensive now.
Does anyone remember how much the price increases were last year?

That's a good comparison, LeftCoaster, but remember - Disney is also trying to lure guests into longer stays, so the 6, 7 & 10 days incremental costs are lower.

everyone is cracking me up here. If everyone would take half a minute and look at all the possibilities that are now available Im sure you all can find something that fits your vacationing habits.

Theres 64 differnet ticket packages now to fit everyones budget.

And I have said it 500 times in the last 2 days, if you normally by a 5 day hopper for around $245 just purchase a 10 day hopper w no expiration option
for $366 and you have 2 vacations worth of 5 day hoppers for about a savings of $130
new 10 day hopper=$366
2 old 5 day hoppers=$490

yes yes a few people have torn into me that they cant afford to pay up front for tickets that expensive, which is hard to understand from my point of view since I think alot of dvc'ers understand the notion of paying a dollar today to save a few in the future.

but if you really cant afford to pay upfront now, then I guess maybe the cost savings options like no hopping would be better for now anyway, no?

Actually its no where near 50.00 to 70.00 more. Disney has dropped the base price down quite a bit. Your not adding $35 for hopping onto todays price of a 4 day pass.

In this way, they are allowing people to pay less than they are paying now, if they feel they can do without hopping or if they do not need the "no expiration" option

I think we're going to upgrade our 7 day hoppers to the new 10 day plus hoppers with no expiration if Disney will let us. My husband and I are buying annual passes for our January trip and our girls and their significant others will be carrying the old 7 day hoppers and hopefully we can upgrade those (even though they have used 1 day off of them). I guess we'll find out in January if that's possible. The kids like the fact that Disneyquest is an option on the new passes.

It seems like the prices are an increase on the 4 and 5 day passes, but the longer length passes seem like a better deal.
