DVC

Renting is, by and large, like any contract...a matter of trust. You need to do due diligence, and find some history on the owner you may be renting from. If you don't feel comfortable with the owner, do not proceed with the transaction. And the reverse is true, owners need to feel confident about their renters.

Yes. But it's a very rare occurrence.

In normal times, it is VERY rare to be burned on a DVC rental. But, as the pandemic showed us in 2020, it can happen through no fault of either the owner or the renter or a broker.

During the pandemic closure. Lots of people who rented ended up without a vacation because the resorts closed. Some got a voucher, with many restrictions attached (and undoubtedly many people didn't/couldn't use it). Some got an opportunity to book a later trip, but couldn't because the pandemic continued. Others got nothing at all.
