DVC website -- crazy inventory swing overnight and now unplanned maintenance

Maybe the inventory given to CRO was dumped back to the DVC in error or by design due to the upgrade.

:earsboy: Bill

Bill: If that is what happened and it was in error, how will DVC handle all of the new bookings made from the "erroneous" inventory? And yes, I obviously have a vested interest in the outcome. :thumbsup2

Everything is a unknown and only guesses. What ever happens, if anything won't be reported by Disney but we might hear more here on the DIS.

I wouldn't worry about it, verify your reservation and print a copy for your records. Don't trust that the reservation link sent by Disney will allow access to your record in the future. IT errors do happen and we have had point and account problems with MS in the past. If it wasn't for my records, MS would not have correct their error.

I keep all point and reservation records just in case.

Fortunately, I did exactly that this morning right after I made the reservation - and I usually don't. :confused3 The DVC Gods were looking down upon me. :joker:

Back online. Availability is way low again. Like worse than last night at midnight low. I'm betting CRO inventory accidentally rolled into DVC. Enjoy your reservations if they stick, people!

If that's what happened, I guess as owners, we'll all suffer a bit as our CRO income (breakage?) will be hurt as a result... unless the rooms given up bring in the same $$$.

Like many others who made their reservations at the 11 month mark, I went on the dvcmember site to make sure it was still there. Thank goodness it was!! These boards can give one a heart attack sometimes.:crazy2:

I did the same thing... was able to snag BWV studio on NYE and Jan1.....

I would be peeved if CRO was sitting on a New Year's Eve BWV studio. Those rare villa types should never go to CRO IMO.

I'm sure they get rooms for every night. I am curious, however, what limits them from cherry picking all of the best rooms/nights when they dump them over to CRO.

As I think about it more, the suggestion that what happened was CRO inventory getting accidentally rolled into DVC is certainly plausible. Now I really wish I'd grabbed some of that magic inventory when I noticed it. pirate:

Now that those possible CRO rooms are booked on points, can they really cancel the reservations and take the rooms back to CRO?

If it really was CRO rooms (which is just speculation), I doubt they'd rescind the reservations. Presumably they'll just take other rooms in the future to compensate. The public relations black eye of canceling a bunch of reservations made due to a bug, when the rooms really are available (i.e., not double-booked) would be much worse than any minor lost revenue from having to defer the CRO inventory until later. They'll get room-nights, its only a matter of when.

If it was CRO rooms, though, then it means CRO inventory is going to be awful for a while...

Thanks! Totally understand it's a speculation, I'm just trying to understand, as I 'd hate to be without a room for two nights of your trip :crazy2:

They can if they have a good IT infrastructure that includes continual snapshots of their database (so-called "continuous data protection"). But then again, we are talking Disney IT, so...

LOL

And pigs can fly

Be very afraid. Basically 3 days of down tells me Stupid still rules this IT shop

When I try to get on it seems the website is still down. Is anyone else able to get into the site this evening?

We planned a quick birthday getaway trip for the first weekend of 2013. We just became members at AKV a few weeks ago so it was bound to be last minute. We found good airfare and jumped on Kidani standard but really wanted BWV since this is an EPCOT trip or Jambo, our favorite.

Well this morning around 815a I noticed BWV was open, but only a pool/garden view. I wasn't sold on that view for more points than Kidani. My husband agreed with me, standard or boardwalk view there only. About an hour later, however, I noticed a Jambo standard room was open. So I jumped on that and canceled Kidani, which of course were the same point values at least. I hope these were real rooms open, as none of these rooms lasted long. But then again, who knows. VWL was still open before the website went down later on, that was completely sold out yesterday too. So for 1/5-1/7 I saw BWV Pool, VWL Studio, AKV Jambo open up his morning. Nothing else studio-wise, so I hope we're good!

Being a very soon to be DVC member.......you guys are scaring me!

Why? This is the same incompetence that runs all of Disney's IT. It is not like DVC is special. They can, and have, screw up CRO, dining. You name it.

Yes, all my "options" from earlier are gone. I could not check until now, I had to work tonight.

I booked my one night on cash, no big deal, I have 4 nights at OKW after that.

Don't count on it, they have rescinded reservations booked by cash guests before when there was a computer glitch.
