My DH is not totally sold on buying into the DVC. He thinks that once we buy Disney will forget about us, no new perks since we are already customers. On our vacation last week I paid $165 per night for a standard view room at AKL & we were bumped up to Savanah view for free. He feels that there will not be anymore comp's like this. Also the Fairytale Package looks good, although I haven't done the math to compare with DVC.

What do you think? As DVC members do you feel like now that Disney has you, they woo others? Are there perks I do not know about?

I sometimes wish there were perks like a dining package. But, I know I would not be able to return as often as I do without the DVC. I also love the "Home Away From Home" feeling when I settle in to my unit. There are some DVC discounts available for restaurants, UHP, spa treatments. There are others, I'm sure someone will post.

It's true that the DVC resorts do not do the complimentary upgrades like you expereienced at the AKL and that the FTP seems to be a very good deal. However, DVC is a prepaid vacation plan that essentially "locks in" your on site lodging costs for the next 39 years. Resorts only do complimentary upgrades if the rooms are available when you are checking in. Discounted packages will probably pretty much disappear once the economy starts picking up. Can't believe that your DH expects the discounting to continue indefinitely. (FWIW, as far as I'm concerned, the DVC accomodations are so much nicer than the hotel rooms that upgrades are just not a concern anymore).

Here's a link to some information about the current "perks/extra benefits" associated with DVC membership:

WALT DISNEY WORLD DISCOUNTS

Just like those associated with the Disney Club and annual passes, the perks can and do change, usually evey year. While everyone would like more discounts and perks, IMHO, the ones DVC offers aren't bad!

HTH.

The last few years have been very bad for tourism in Orlando. As a result, there are some very attractive discounts available. Will that continue for the next 39 years? I sure hope not since we'll all be in a lot of trouble. I'm not sure that Disney "woos" DVC members but they have offered us a way to have truly luxurious vacations at a cost comparable to staying at moderates. They also treat us the same or better as any other guest so there's no worry about being "forgotten". There are also perks and discounts that change over time but always include discounts on non-major theme parks (although we get a discount on UMPs) and restaurant discounts. We can also plan ahead knowing our costs and not having to chase down deals.

I can't improve much on what the above posters have said, except to add these 2 questions:

Have you done the DVC tour/presentation, and have you rented points and/or paid cash to stay in a DVC room, yet?

IMO, it becomes a matter of preference after one has stayed in the DVC units. Even a studio is larger and has more features than your basic rooms at the deluxe resorts.

Get your DH in one of the DVC rooms, and then see what he thinks! ;)

Good luck!

Yes, but the women was really rushed, & no we havn't stayed in a DVC room.

You see I am quite the bargain hunter, & my DH gets a kick out of my hunting & paying less for more. (who wouldn't be happy with that!)

He like sort of campared it to Cell phone companies, where they woo a potential customer, but after "hooking" them, would give a better deal to "hook" the next one. He doesn't want to feel, someone else got a better deal.

If your husband likes a deal, then maybe you might wnat to look at the resales... maybe then he will feel that he got more with paying less.
