One thing that is concerning us a bit is the ability to get comparable airfare rates on our own vs through WDW and the Magic Your Way pkgs. It seems WDW is able to get much better rates through airlines than we can on our own, and wonder if this would eat at any savings?

I'm sure it depends where you are coming from. For our pre DVC trips, we were always able to get much better airfare on our own than through Disney. In Jan, we were able to get roundtrip tickets through SW for less then $100 from Chicago. I'm sure those days are over for a little while.

They are getting the same airfare that you can get. Maybe because it's all packaged up and you can't see what you are paying it seems better? But you should be able to do the same or better on your own.

I agree with others - I never found those packages to be a deal - just a convenience. Although I used to live near Dallas and I know you are kind of limited with airlines. You'll probably have to fly AA.

We'd be coming in from Dallas. We have SW but not to FL.

I flew American, nonstop, round trip, from Dallas on 5/4 for $239 (including tax). I booked it back in November through Travelocity, and ended up finding a better fare but couldn't book it because of change penalties. Not only do you have the airline charge, but Travelocity also charges $100 to make a change. I doubt I'd use them again, but I didn't think $239 was a bad fare.

What are your dates? It looks like Dallas (Love Field) to MCO runs between $135-$220 one way in the next couple of months, depending on the day you fly. Honestly, though - those prices don't seem terribly great. They might have better Dings available from time to time, though, and they may have better prices on your specific dates, if they're far enough out.

Another option would be to look into flying into Sanford or Tampa (probably not SW, though). You'll need to rent a car, but it's possible the savings could offset the cost of the rental.

I don't have any dates now, as we just got back LOL. I just didn't know if that should be a consideration in deciding to DVC.

I am in PA, so this probably doesn't help much, but a flight to MCO is $79 each way.
That's how I decided to go in Sept even though we were just there in April.
