Have any of your had experience with both Disney & Marriott Vacation Clubs? Which would you prefer and why? Also, is the price per point the same? Also, does the fact that you don't own a "deed" to the points and that there is an expiration date concern you? Would it be a better investment to purchase a Timeshare. Lots of questions I know - thanks for your help!

I recently requested and received info on the Marriott program.
More out of curiosity, than an actual purchase
The main difference and weakness compared to DVC I saw was that you cannot book a reservation anytime in the year, you pick from either Platinum, Gold, Silver, or Bronze plans. These equate to blocks of weeks throughout the year. Also you book for one week trips, not nightly.

I’m sure there are several DIS’ers who own both and can comment further to your other questions. For our family and preferences, we’ll probably in several years buy a DVC add-on rather than a Marriott interest.

First, DVC IS a timeshare. DVC and Marriott both have great products but they function differently and each have their strengths and weaknesses. Marriott is much better for beach and trading issues and is generally somewhat cheaper than DVC. DVC is more flexible and better for WDW visits especially for those that would pay for a deluxe WDW resort anyway.

I own both Marriott and DVC and feel they are a great complement to each other. You should spend 6 months or more getting to know each system to help you decide. Your home resort is far more inportant for Marriott than DVC. Go to tug2.net and you can find out much more about Marriott.
