There is a website/message board that has a ton of Marriott owners on it that are very knowledgeable on the Marriott system. The Marriott boards are very active, and have a lot of people that can answer questions about Marriott and Marriott vs. other systems. The Disney boards are less active, but I imagine they could answer questions you have as well. An advantage of those boards is that they are filled with timeshare people, not necessarily Disney people, so their opinions and information will be more neutral and objective. On a Disney board you are more likely to find people that are Disney-centric and support Disney no matter what. Google times hare users group forums.
We own Marriott and Disney. We own 100 Disney points, which we just purchased a few years ago, which can pretty much get us a full vacation every three years on-site. Otherwise, we stay off-site at Marriott properties. Between Interval trades and Getaways, we are able to get to Orlando for affordable prices quite often. Of course, our son is not in school yet, so this helps. The DVC membership allows us to get DVC discounted APs, which was honestly one of the main reasons we made the jump to purchase a small number of points at DVC. We went to Marriott's Ko Olina this year (for the third time, 2-bedroom ocean front) and rented a room at Aulani on points for one night, just so we could experience the resort.
