We just booked a 1 bedroom at SSR in September for the same cost as renting points. We did use the AP discount which made a difference. We also get daily Mousekeeping. I was under the impression that points would always be the better deal but I guess not. :confused3

CRO has a special code going for September for SSR so that is probably why. Did you reserve weekend nights? Weekend nights are almost always cheaper with CRO under the current system. If CRO starts charging more for weekends next year, then you have to look at it again.

Can someone please post or PM me the code...we are thinking about extending our late Aug. vacation into the first few days of Sept.

As you already know, renting points is not always a better deal than paying cash - especially if Disney is offering a good discount.

In general (but not always, LOL):

* Renting is not a better deal if your talking about weekend nights.

* Getting a "deal" depends on the price per point the owner is charging.

Paying with your own DVC points should be a better value than cash, though - even if you are talking about weekend nights. Depending on when you bought, your cost per point could be as low as $5 or $6.

I think it is easy to sometimes get the wrong impression from reading the boards - even for those of us who have been around here a long time. Posters repeat things they've read and generalize. With enough repetition, those things somehow become "fact" or "rules of thumb", LOL.

September is typically Disney's month of phenomenal room discounts and free everything promotions. The downside is that you have to visit during the absolute worst month of the year in terms of weather: heat, humidity, and hurricanes.

It the rest of the US, the heat starts to break a bit in September, but not in central Florida - there's a reason native Floridians call the month of September "mean season".
