Say I use my full 11 month advance reservation window. Can I ultimately "pay" for some of this visit with cash instead of points? How would this work? I have seen people mention paying cash for the weekend nights. It wouldn't make sense that you could pay cash for the entire visit so there must be some limitation.

Thanks for the help.

You couldn't reserve with points and then just change it to cash, you would have to cancel the points reservation (or just some nights) and make a cash reservation. Members can get a 25% discount on a cash reservation if available (from what I've heard there is limited availability). You can sometimes get an AP rate through CRO that is even more than 25% off, that's probably very limited too. I don't think there's a limit on the number of nights you can reserve for cash.

Thanks for the info. That sounds like a long shot - linking two completely separate point and cash reservations (at least during busier times of year). Has anyone done this successfully?

If you can reserve the cash nites thru MS, they will link the entire reservation. If the cash nights are reserved thru CRO, the link may be more difficult, but not impossible. They can even do this at check in most cases.

Cash reservations (with the 25% member discount) are getting more difficult, simply because, with sold out resorts, most nights are reserved with points. The cash nights must come from unreserved member inventory, breakage period unreserved rooms (within 60 days) or CRO inventory (from member reservations at non-DVC loctations.)
Good luck!

Before adding on more points last year, we usually paid cash for weekend nights, booking the room through MS. Rates are expensive, even with the 25% DVC discount. It was also difficult to get the reservations, and we often had to wait 1-2 days for MS to confirm the reservation was confirmed. Something about requests having to go to a supervisor for final approval. Linking the cash and point reservation was never a problem. We did cash/points reservations at BWV, OKW, VB and HH. Happy to say this year all of our 3 planned trips we will be using points for all nights..including weekends!

Have a wonderful day!

I've done cash and point reservations several times in the past 2 years and I have never had a problem. I book the point nights (Sun-Thurs) through MS and then I book the cash nights with an AP discount through CRO--this always turns out to be a better rate than the DVC cash discount through MS. The 2 reservations are not linked and they will tell you that you might have to change rooms--we have never had to change rooms, and you will also have to go to the front desk and check in again once the pt reservation ends and the cash reservation starts, but it is very easy and hassle free. It is really a piece of cake

AP means annual pass. If you purchase an annual pass one of the perks is that Disney sometimes makes resort rooms available at very good discounts. Another little bonus...if you book through CRO (and maybe get a discount) you'll get full maid service if you get a DVC discount you get the same maid service as if you were staying on points.

...renting points. You could rent more points and then you could have your ressie as all points.
