If you have not stayed at Disney's Vero Beach Resort yet, do it. :thumbsup2

We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa July 29-August 5, 2006 and it was a great vacation! The kids loved it. My wife loved it. I loved it!

Each year we debate which DVC resort we will stay at next. There will probably not be any debate this time, we want to go back to Vero.

The pool & slide were great and the beach is wonderful. I grew up in New Jersey, so I take the ocean for granted. But my kids grew up here on the Illinois prairie and really love vacations on the Atlantic. :beach:

If you are scratching your head as to where to vacation next, you can't go wrong with Disney's Vero Beach Resort! :teeth:

DH isn't a beach lover, but he loves this resort! I'm glad you had such a great time. Our next visit there will be in March for 2 nights.

Bobbi :goodvibes

Glad you had a wonderful time! Has anyone gone to Vero for Dodger Spring Training?

We have a trip booked for late February-is it warm enough for the pool and beach? It looks far enough south to hope for good weather!

I LOVE VERO BEACH... Did you walk the tunnel and visit the Lake and nature walk accross the highway? See any turtles hatching? Do any bodyboarding? WOHOO tomorrow I do the single digit dance. Glad you loved it. If you and DW every have the opportunity to go alone, try an inn room with the greatest view of the ocean. Leave the balcony door open just a crack at night so you can hear the waves in your sleep.

We haven't been there in February. Average high for February is 74 degrees. The Ocean water will be too cold (even for me), but the pool should be heated. Comfort on the beach will likely depend on the wind conditions. Have a great time it's a great place. :)

We stayed there for three nights earlier in May this year, we loved it so much we changed our September WDW holiday to start with a relaxing 4 days at Vero - sheer bliss!

Our recent first time at Vero stay overlapped a few days with that of the Op (we checked in on 8/3 and stayed for nine days).

My observations, both pro and con:

- Paying attention to recommendations on this board paid off. Per them, I booked a two bedroom as a lockoff and requested top floor, ocean view. We got put in villas 1242 and 1243 in building 12, which had a magificent 300 degree view of the ocean from our top floor balconies. If you get a villa, building 12 is the preferable building to be in; the northern end of the resort has less construction facing it and is quieter. Frankly, I think the inn room thing overrated; the studio part of our 2Br that my daughter was in had all the amenities and views of a deluxe inn room, with more privacy. Car access is also better in a villa, I loved being able to walk out of our villa to an elevator ten feet away, which took me directly to my car in the basement garage. Other than OKW, access doesn't get any better than this at any other DVC resort.

- Vero - at least during the season we were there -- has a somewhat different "client dynamic" than the other DVC resorts we've stayed at (we own at Boardwalk, also have stayed at HH, BC and OKW). This is because Vero attracts a large number of guests who are appending a short Vero stay to a longer WDW vacation. These "transitional" guests have both a positive and negative impact on things.

On the plus, there's huge outflow from the resort during the Sunday Monday period (the beaten path approach to vacations is start them at the beginning of the week, so a lot of Vero guests do that at WDW, then check into Vero on Saturday and leave Sunday or Monday), so it's very relaxed and quiet then.

The downside is the crowding in the public facilities (pool and restaurants particularly) when a new flood of WDW "refugees" arrives on Friday/Saturday. Don't try to "stop by" the guest services/registration area then; it's proverbially jammed with people asking all the understandable "I just got here" neophyte questions.

- The overall CM morale at Vero seemed higher than the norm. I attribute this to the fact the workforce has a lot of tenure (a good number of them I spoke to have been with the resort since it opened) and the fact the area Vero in general sits in is a somewhat laid back place.

- The beach is nice (but the one at HH is better). The coarse Atlantic sand is at best so-so for sandcastle building and sculpture (my son and I are really into this), surf is good but not great for boogie boarding. You can save a buck by doing what we did, picking up two cheap beach chairs at a pharmacy in town and only renting an umbrella while you're there. Ambience on beach is nice, not crowded, not rowdy or noisy - as active or relaxing if you want.

- The pool is better than the ones at HH and OKW, but falls below what you experience at BWV and BC. Interestingly, the DVC budget cuts are showing at the Vero pool; unlike BWV and BC there's now no CM up at the top of the slide managing the queue (no, the one in the chair below across from the rentals is NOT doing that), so I saw a good amount of "misbehavior" up there (kids cutting in line, going down the slide improperly, etc). If you want a table, you must be at the pool within a few minutes of the rope dropping at 8am.

- Pool food service setup at Vero is the fastest, friendliest and most efficient I've ever seen at any resort pool. Love the long hours of that mug refill station, too, and the coffee setup in the Inn in the morning.

- That stated, Shutters did not impress us. We may have picked a bad night (Sunday 8/6), even with an AR (yes, they are available at Vero) we had a long wait to be seated, service was very slow (just to get basket of rolls to us took over 20 minutes), and none of our entrees was anything to get excited about. Sonyas five nights later was 180 degrees different, excellent food and service.

- This is not a resort for the heavy duty nightlife crowd (not that we were exactly looking for that, but BWV has spoiled us). The Green Cabin room is cute, but it's small size belies the fact this is a resort where things really quiet down after 9:30 and are pretty much dead by 10. Evening entertainment options in the whole area are rather limited. My 12 year old daughter was fine here during this visit - but I can see her getting restless at night if we go back in a few years.

- In terms of local tourism opportunities, Vero scores below HH. There's some interesting dining, but beyond the local minor league team, some outlet malls and a few small museums, substantive "attractions" in the area are pretty limited. But that's fine, we (and I think most Vero guests) don't come looking for that.

So the bottom line?

Vero is a relaxed, nice, well-run retreat - and if approached that way, will satisfy (albeit seasoned beach freaks may miss the soft sand of the Gulf Coast or Caribbbean). It's also a resort where making the right booking and requests almost guarantees you a nice view and and room/villa location - something that can't be said for most other DVC resorts. :teacher:

WOW! You pay a lot more attention to details than I think I do. I never really picked up on the trend of (I'll call them transients), but you are probably right. Two years ago, after having spent all our stays in 1 bdrm, we decided to try an Inn room... ooohyea... Would like to have had the full kitchen and laundry, but I am just mesmorized by the view of the ocean and sounds of the waves lapping down. It is bliss. We will be staying in a 1 bdrm this stay and I think we will probably alternate between the two.

Once there we don't use our car much, so we do like having our car in the garage under the Inn (cool and comfy) for when we do set out. Can't say we have ever experienced the large number of people at check-in at any time, at least not compared to BWV or BCV or other on-site resorts. Those are crazy, but I have to say Disney does the best job of getting things moving through.

You're right about the crowding at the pool and restaurants at certain times. If we are going to spend some time at the pool, we do it early. And we almost never go to sit down at the restaurants, we just call down and order carry-out, and bring it back to our room. Great meal and just us!

CM morale is probably the best I have seen anywhere. They probably don't remember me, but I remember many of them from a long time ago.

The beach is wonderful. I am an wave riding nut, and I can tell you that any beach from Cocoa down to Vero is the best for boogie boarding. When we want to experience great sand we head over to Fiesta Island... the finest sand in the world. Probably not good for building sculptures though.

I am not sure about the pool slide. People are not directed by CM during normal operation (though lifeguards do keep watch), but during slide events there are CM's top and bottom. I don't think budget cuts have to do with this difference, I think it is the different atmosphere.

Pool service... Agreed, these CMs are the best. Hope they continue to be.

We're not really restaurant people, so as I stated before we order carry-out and generally order 1 entree and 2 salads, and we have plenty to eat at a less expensive price.

This is definitely a beach resort for families. Things do get real quiet late in the evening. We love it. We also love BWV (our home).

I think the local tourism opportunities are abundant around Vero. You have a huge national wildlife refuge around Cape Canaveral, and many wildlife sanctuaries (Pelican Island!), river boat rides on the most abundant wildlife river in the country (Indian River), and everglade excursions galore. For the tech minded you have the Kennedy Space Center.

You don't have WDW, but I guess that explains the transients.

We think Vero Beach may be the best run resort in the Kingdom!

Glad you enjoyed. We always do. Thanks for your report. Very thorough and well thought out.

WERE GOING TO VERO BEACH NEXT WEEK!

I loved Vero and was just there in June for the 1st time. I already booked a 1 bedroom for next yr. Where is Fiesta Island? ;)

Oh, it is just in reach. It is on the gulf coast side of Florida around Sanibel. If you love nature, you'll love Sanibel & Fiesta Key islands. You can walk out 100 yards in ankle deep clear water and touch star fish and all kinds of aquatic wildlife. If I didn't love the waves soooo much we would go there always. What a nice place that would make for a DVC resort. The sand there is really the consistancy of corn starch... just a powder really.
