How do you figure out what the value of DVC property is for the purposes of estate planning?

Is it just the initial purchase price, or does it change over time?

Thanks!

You should discuss this with your lawyer, not with prople your don't know on the internet.

I don't think that we would qualify as legal experts should your estate end up in court.

I am actually discussing this with my financial planner. I just was curious as to how other's have handled this.

I will not comment for the purposes of estate planning but I track all my financial info using a popular software program. Since I did not finance my DVC purchase I hated seeing the money just evaporate from my accounts so I Listed DVC as asset and used a eyeball average of the resale market $/point times the numbers of points I own. I will probably update the $/point every year.

Thank you. That was a much more helpful response and similar to what I have been doing.

Thanks again

Resale market for sure. That is the price it is worth today at least. "worth" :)

I use the value on the resale market, but also subtract 10% to cover the likely cost of the commission on the sale. -- Suzanne

I think it also depends on your estate planning horizon; it is reasonable to assume that, at some point, the value of a point held will decline, and sharply.

The closer you get to expiration, the more likely the point values will begin to degrade on the resale market.
