The search is not helping me get my answer on this.

In order to qualify for the valet parking as a DVC member at the DVC resorts do you have to have an existing reservation at one of the Disney resorts or can you take advantage of it if you are staying off property. Say we wanted to have dinner at Boardwalk and were staying off property could we drive up and tell them we are DVC members for the valet parking?

thanks

You do not need to have an active reservation. Your blue DVC Membership card will do the trick.

We had no problem using valet parking at BWV in May. We just showed our DVC card. We weren't staying on site at this time.

Valet Parking is free only at DVC Resorts. I tried getting free DVC parking at The Yacht Club but was told no. Tipping is optional but expected.

do you pay for valet parking at all or just tips ??

You just need to give tip when DVC free valet parking is used, it is customary & appreciated by those employees - of course it is up to your discretion based on service received.

Free valet parking for members would only be at DVC resorts that have valet parking available - BWI/BWV, BC/BCV, AKL/AKV, WL/WLV & expected to be at CR/BLT as well when BLT opens; free valet parking is not available at GF or Polynesian Resort or YC & there isn't valet parking offered at all at SSR & OKW.

:goodvibes

If you have a Tables in Wonderland (TiW) card, you can valet for free at any resort that has valet parking if you are dining there. You would need to show your TiW card and dining receipt. A tip is optional, but is expected.

DVC also says that members not use valet parking a resort to visit the theme parks. It is only supposed to be used to visit the resort.

In January, we stayed our first night Concierge at WL then transferred to VWL for the rest of our stay. Valet was not free for the first night, since it was not a DVC reservation. I also thought valet was always free (reservation or not) at all DVC resorts. This did not seem to be true for us in January.

You could have gone to the front desk and asked them to take it off your bill.

Yep, for DVC it's only at DVC resorts - that would be Boardwalk, Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club or Animal Kingdom Lodge/Villas (I don't think valet parking is needed or available at SSR or OKW). Soon, the Contemporary will probably count as well. Watch out for this one. Don't know if anything will be put in place to ensure that DVC members aren't using the Contemporary valet parking to get to the Magic Kingdom.

It's customary to tip the valet. The parking is free but the tip is not included.

Are people tipping when they drop off, pick up or both? What is the standard tip?

The industry standard is to tip on pick up but many do both. They could change it tomorrow but at this time one does not need to be staying on property to use the free Valet at DVC resorts.

Is there self parking near the buildings in most of these DVC resorts? Or does everyone use valet parking and must you? I don't even like getting gas in NJ because I don't like people touching my car. (I know, I'm odd.)

Self parking is not a problem at Beach Club or AKL. Depending on what area of the lot(s) you are required to park in, the self parking at Wilderness Lodge and Boardwalk can be quite a long hike from the buildings.

All resorts have a self park area. Valet is optional when it's offered.

We don't stay at BWV because it's just not our favorite. Self parking is a bit far from the entrance. BCV has close up self parking. WL and AKL are similar in that self parking isn't very close to the entrance. Sometimes we'll valet park when we arrive, but self park the rest of the time. Those tips get expensive if you pick up your car more than once a day.

SSR and OKW, no valet parking.
