I am in the process of doing research on DVC Resales. We like to go to Disney during our April vacation week, but if we decide to purchase dvc we may want to go during February school vacation week or even try christmas week occassionally. What would you all suggest would be a good UY to go with?
Also, we like to try different resorts when we vacation, so would it be wise to look into purchasing at SSR or OKW since the contract prices are alot less than other resorts and then just book vacations out at the resort we are interested in staying at when the 7 month window opens? Or is it best to pick a resort you really like and stick with making reservations there every year?

october or december.

here's a good thread for explaining UY.

it's best to choose a resort you really like...or at least, don't mind staying at.

if you imagine you can buy SSR or OKW and then have a lot of choices looking for christmas weeks at other DVC resorts, you really need to do more research. pretty much all of december is peak season for DVC - with christmas week being even tougher. for december, you would need to book at 11 months and don't be surprised if you are "stuck" at that home resort - many times even waitlists don't come through for december.

so if you are happy staying at SSR, buy there. if you really won't be happy unless you are staying at VWL...or BCV...or AKV...or BLT... then you need to buy at that specific home resort.

I also think it is important to buy a place you won't mind staying if you can't change from your home resort at the 7 month mark.

We bought BLT because we have always loved staying at the Contemporary. I just got back from my first DVC stay and we tried BWV, BLT, and VWL for the trip.

While BWV and VWL were nice, they were not BLT! For me, the location and feel I get when at BLT is just not the same elsewhere.

Although I could have saved myself a lot of money buying in at SSR, I am so happy that I bought where I know I will be happy. Matter of fact, my BLT stay this time was right in the middle of the trip so I experienced the other resorts both before and after staying there. I now know that I bought the best place for me and am glad that I can book at the place I want to be 11 months out. Matter of fact, I get to make next year's trip in just 2 1/2 weeks!!!

Some of the weeks you mention, especially December, may be hard to get at 7 months so if SSR or OKW are not the place you want to be, then I would pick somewhere else as my home resort.

Good luck!

Picking a favorite resort is a personal thing. Sandisw loves BLT but a lot of folks say staying at the Contemporary or BLT is like staying in a generic high rise. Many purchased BLT because of the excellent job Disney does hyping their projects, we bought because of the location.

The only way to find which resort is your favorite is to experience the resort for yourself. I hate to see people buy at a resort that they don't really love just because it seemed like a good deal at the time.

Good luck and have fun on your adventure. :goodvibes
