DVC Updates...possible perk and new resort(s), SSR pool

Cora, I am glad you arrived in FL without any problems. I know you were quite concerned last week. Thanks for the DVC info, too!

I know that this is pure speculation, but do you think that if Disney offered a Cruise DVC membership that it would be a part of the current DVC or a separate, stand alone membership program?

Think BIG to me would suggest your largest state Texas. Just my 2 cents worth but that would be the think big in my mind.

When you stay at one of the 3 hotels at USF your room key is your pass to front of the line. We have done this 3 times its great. You can use it anytime you like.If this were to become a perk for DVC members that makes joining the DVC even a better deal. Forget deals on passes get me to the front of the line for rides.1st time going home early oct. SSR. Best time of the year!

Love<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/29/29_2_5.gif' border=0></a> the idea of a FOTL offer! If they do this, I hope they do it before our trip in November!

I would love FOTL for DVCers....

but then started thinking, how not to get everyone else mad?

So.... here's speculation, you're DVC pass could give you a FP, but it would act like a FOTL pass in that the return date / time would be now, as opposed to later.

I swear, I have seen at XMAS VIPs doing this.... but it happened once and was so quick, wasn't sure.....

Just pure speculation, no inside info,

Goldi

One of my good friends is a realtor here in Houston and swears that a Disney shell company just bought up a huge amount of land in Columbus, Texas (halfway between Houston and San Antonio -- but closer to Houston) to build a Texas themed park off Interstate 10. It would connect DL and WDW because all 3 would be off I-10. I add that this is just a RUMOR because I can not verify this in any way but to take his word for it. Maybe a new park with a DVC resort attached???

Think big = cruise ship (IMHO)

The state of Florida approved sweeping legislation this past June to its timeshare laws. In my read of it, the primary reason for the change was to allow personal property, in addition to real property, as a timeshare. The words "cruise ship" were added to the timeshare law in dozens of places and language specific to personal property was purposely included.

Let's see. What company in Florida is a proven success at timesharing, has the legislative clout to get the law changed, and has a timeshare buyer base of over 80,000 people , in addition to millions of potential buyers per year?

I think a DVC cruise ship would be a very creative concept.

There are other timeshare companies/operators that are just as large as DVC. Cendant/Fairfield/RCI for one.

Wow! These rumors are quite interesting. Can't wait to see what the next few months bring.

Hey, AZKathy - Texas would be a bit closer to us Arizonans!

I'm thinking New York City...they've got the broadway theater there, Manhattan has become a very popular tourist destination...hmmm

I have heard raves about the FOTL perks from friends/family who stayed as Universal guests. Smart also it may get DVC members who have a non park trip back into the park - of course a discounted AP would probably go a longer way there.
Unfortunately there are many more complaints from the people at the park that aren't staying at the resorts. 1-2 hour waits for every ride leads to major dissatisfaction.

The current Disney fastpass system allows everyone the oppurtunity to use it. While giving us a minor perk, maybe a 1 hour window until the next fast pass ILO the 2 hour window might work, Disney needs to be careful how they change things.

I believe Universal has this offer because they need people to stay at their resorts.

Disney wants DVC members in the park, so cost concessions or fastpass incentives might be forthcoming, but they need to make sure they don't overload the system making non-DVC customers unhappy.

I think the "higher-ups" fib extensively based on the horrendous track record of these rumors.

I would love a DVC at Vail or Snowmass or Snowbird. They're BIG.

As much as we would enjoy having the perk - I'm against it. I think that brings 'class' issues into the lines. Now - we're certainly not upper class - but being able to swing a DVC membership makes me feel very fortunate. I don't think you could ever explain to a 5 year old waiting for a ride why all those other people get to sneak ahead of him! Fastpass is fair, and I think it's been working pretty well. I'd almost be embarrassed to use FOTL! Just my opinion...:goodvibes

FOLA would be pretty neat.

I would rather have a discount on annual passes....

I really would like DVC at the Cont - that resort needs something and DVC might be able to make it the best resort at WDW again. Okay that is wishfully thinking....

when we were in July fass pass was working fine - and lots of people were using it.

I though that was the ideal.....

for WDW to change the system now would I think make some other guests mad - but hey if they want FOLA they only have to stay in a WDW resort.

Universal has used it quite well!!! Of course US also allows guest to kept their pets in their rooms. WDW will never to do this.

think big.....

I would guess Hawaii - might be California - but my guess would be Hawaii.

did you heard any ticket discounts for DVC members????
kept hopeing.....

Alaska is the biggest state.

During our stay at SSR this week we found out (from a reliable source) that:

1. Fastpass revamp - since everyone is now using it it is not as fast as it once was. One thing that is being looked at is a type of Front of the Line (like Universal's) this could be a possible DVC perk!

2. SSR extra theme pool - because of the third phase of SSR an additional theme pool is being looked at. This would be in the farthest areas of the resort.

3. The Contemporary is definitely being looked at as a new DVC resort at WDW.

4. Don't be surprised to see a DVC built somewhere else in the US. We were told think big!

Cora

Cora! ARe you home or still at SSR? We were there from Sunday until this morning (Thursday.) I always wondered if I was at a bus stop with you or at the pool with you but I didn't know what you looked like or if you had kids or a hubby with you!

SSR desperately will need a 2nd themed pool. I can't see how that pool can accomodate all the guests at that resort once it's complete...even with a quiet pool for each set of buildings. On Wednesday, High Rock Springs was jamming and so was the quiet pool behind Congress Park.

If they make a Contemporary DVC...I'll be buying! I loooove the monorail!

I'll be looking for further trip reports from you Cora...did you like SSR? I did for sure, but it was MUCH bigger and more spread out than I could imagine. And I'm sure that dh and I were in the farthest studio from anything important like a busstop or the main resort area....but more on that later!

I can second the Texas land acquisition rumor. I have several friends here in Texas who have large construction contracting businesses and stone yards and I have also been told the same thing about a "Disney" company acquiring land. Texas may not have the most land, but Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austins growth rates are phenomenal. Many large corporations are relocating to Texas because of the incentives for their workers. No state income tax, lower cost of living than most Northern states and California, and miles and miles of room to expand.

We are back home. We returned yesterday afternoon. We really liked SSR, but I agree I can't imagine what the theme pool will be like when it is complete. That's why I was very happy to hear they are planning a second large pool.

I too wondered the same...whether I was right next to you, etc. We did not use the buses. However, we were at the pool Mon afternoon, Tues morning and Wed morning.
