I was thinking of getting travel ins for our trip in oct. Not sure if really needed, when we just go to WDW and not on a cruise, we usually dont get it. Seemed to be about 150 just for coverage, and all we really have is airfare for about 1600 or so(with 1200 of it paid in travel vouchers) and the room was all done on points, so we are not out any money there as of yet.

When i went to the DVC website, it said their ins was only $89, and lasted one year? so does that cover everything? flights, rooms, etc? and does that one year cover all trips using DVC for one year, or only one trip?, as we have 3 trips planned all within one year, oct 2013 to WDW, May 2014 2 night cruise using points, and sept 2014 7 night cruise on cash and will prob use points for a room the night before and maybe after.

do we need ins for each trip, or is it all covered for the year? how does this ins work with DVC. i dont remember the past ins covering flights and everything or using this company, so is this all new?

Can anyone help with my many questions?

thank you

You buy the insurance for all of your points for each use year
If you have 200 pts for 2013, and take 1 trip using 125 points, you and everyone traveling with you on those points is covered. The insurance is for the entire use year for those points. If you travel on your 2013 points and use 75 for another trip everyone is covered once again.
Now, I am pretty sure if you use points from 2013, and borrow from 2014 for a reservation, you will also have to buy insurance for 2014.
We have planned a trip using all of our points from 2012,13,and 14 for 12 nites in a 2 BR over the holidays, and we will buy 3 yrs of insurance.
But, we are seniors, and anything can happen when we travel.
We were on the 2011 member cruise, and my hubby had a medical problem. We were reimbursed all of the ships medica bills. Think about the medivac costs. If you have a heart attack or a serious accident and have to be flown to a major medical center, it covers up to $50,000 for the medivac--just think about it, and decide.:confused3
We will be traveling with 2 DD, 1 DSIL, 2 DGS, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!!

It's per use year, the DVC website isn't very clear on that. So if your trip covers banked 2012, current 2013 & borrowed 2014, you need to pay $89 x3.

Yes, that is the way it was explained to me by DVC in 2011:charac2::charac2::charac2:

Your cruise will not be covered, since you are paying cash for it!
The insurance only covers you when traveling on points!
You will have to buy trip insurance from DCL if you want to be covered on the cruise.:sad1:

Which I would not recommend.

Go out to insuremytrip.com and shop around.

DCL's has a HUGE flaw. If you develop what they consider preexisting between the booking date and the Paid in Full date then your 'preexisting" issue is NOT covered because it was discovered BEFORE the insurance was 'paid' Yes, even if you call them and say add the insurance and they say that's $XX they don't actually "pay" until you hit the Paid in Full date.

We decided to not buy the DVC insurance for our Aulani trip in September as we are using 2 use years points and since our use year starts in September, if we had to cancel we will still have 11 months to use the points up. We are buying insurance through Insuremytrip.com to cover the airline costs, medical evacuation, etc. Which turns out to be almost the same price for the 4 of us as the DVC insurance would have cost, but with better coverage for the medical part.
