DVC Travel Insurance?

What are people's thoughts on the travel insurance offered through Travelex on the website? Did a search on the boards and most posts are related to coverage for COVID related cancellations. But, I was wondering what people's experience have been with the insurance? The site states $99 for a full use-year of protection. Does that mean it only covers current UY points (i.e. no coverage on trips using banked or borrowed points)? Also for those that have decent coverage through a credit card such as a chase sapphire reserve, is the travel insurance even worth it? Thanks!

I have not used it but my understanding is that when you buy it to cover a trip, you have to buy it for all points used in that reservation.

So, if the trip is using more than current UY, you have to pay that. But, once it’s bought, all other trips with those points would be covered

Other than that, I can’t offer you any other answers.

I think the Chase Sapphire Reserve insurance is great (we depend on it for domestic travel), but I'm not sure it would reimburse for the MFs represented by the points you might lose if you canceled a trip. The DVC Travelex insurance does cover those MFs, and I believe it covers other nonrefundable travel expenses as well. So I'd really compare the cost of the insurance to the cost of dues for the points you'd lose in making a decision. I know I've read on these boards of people making claims successfully, but it's been a while.

I have 2 member numbers but both contracts have the same use year.

Would I have to purchase Travelex for both member numbers or just for the UY.

You buy it for the points used in a trip and then it will cover any other trips during that UY that uses points.

So, if you have two memberships, it will have to be bought for trips booked on each.

Yep,
Transferred points from one to my other and booked trip.
I was short by 27 points so just took the from my other member account.

Just booked an ABD trip with and was initially concerned regarding the insurance as I used 2 Dec UY memberships: one using points from 2 UY (2020/2021) and one using points from 3 UY (2020/2021/2022). This required buying 5 UY policies at $99 each. When I shopped the cost of the coverage elsewhere The DVC coverage turned out to be quite reasonable. Also, for the policy where we covered the 2022 points now all of my remaining 2022 points are insured too.
