DVC Transfer Questions for a Newbie

We are in the process of purchasing our first DVC Points. Closing May 17th we will own 100 Beach Club with Feb use year. This will not be enough for our first large vacation and so we are hoping to possibly transfer another members points into our account.

Questions:

1. If we transfer another members points..say
200 and they are WL use month May...
DO the transfered points take on our Feb use year or remain May?

2. Are they still locked into the 7 month window if we wanted to book at Beach Club?

3. How far out would we have to bank if we were unable to use all transferred points ( I have heard both that you can anc cannot bank transferred points)?

4.How long does it take for a transfer agreement take affect?

OK, I will try and go through this for you. Some others will help also.

1. Good question. From what I understand the system at disney can not tell and they will become Feb use year points. I heard something about they were working on this problem. Someone might be able to tell you more, but I believe they become Feb. use year.

2. Yes, if the system at Disney shows them that way. I have heard both stories on the board. Sometimes they can make them at 11 months out, but I would not count on it.

3. First yes you can bank transferred points. I have transferred points to a friend and they have banked them. They will follow the same banking rules as your original points.

4. I would count on 24 hours, but it shouldn't take them that long. I have called and they have done it right on the phone. Sometimes they have to do it manually and it takes longer. They will ask you to send an email or letter confirming. I know you are not the ones transferring, but thats what happens. It is a very easy process.

todsue99 pretty much answered all of your questions. i did want to elaborate on some of the details though for #1 and #2.

1. the transferred points will take on a May UY. however, it's quite possible you will not get a full 12 mos use out of the points. for example, if you asked someone to transfer you their May 2004 points, you will either have use from 5/1/04 - 1/31/05, or you will have use from 2/1/05 - 4/30/05.
2. the points are <i>supposed to</i> stay VWL points, so technically you will have to wait till the 7mo window to book at BCV. however, it's been reported that a glitch existed in the system and the points might just get converted over to BCV points once they are in your account. MS is supposedly fixing this glitch... though no one knows if/when they've actually fixed it?

btw, todsue99, i've been looking to hear first hand experiences from people who have successfully banked their transferred points. would you mind sharing the details of how MS handled the banking of the transferred points? you can send me a PM if you like. thanks!
