DVC to RCI/Registry Collection Experience

Does anyone have any experience getting into the Waldorf Astoria, Park City? I spent almost an hour on the phone with DVC this week trying to check availability. The Cast Member first told me that it wasn't an RCI property, so I had to show her it was on the DVC site. Then I had to show her that it was not in the 'main' RCI search, you had to look in the Registry Collection. Then she tried to tell me that there were no reservations available - ever. She finally said that really just meant they had no availability for the next 24 months.

I'm now very confused. Has anyone ever been successful booking a resort in the RCI Registry Collection? Can I waitlist "any" week between x and y dates? Since I have to book plane tickets and can't wait until the last minute, can I cancel the waitlist if it hasn't booked by the end of May?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if this is an option with DVC/RCI, but Wyndham has a new resort in Park City. Since it's new, I don't know if they are depositing it into RCI, but you might check

Another option there would be to rent from a Wyndham owner via TUG, Redweek, or some other forum. I don't rent my Wyndham points, but if you give me your preferred dates I can check availability within the next 10 months for you. Can't check further out than that.

If you are not specifically looking for Park City, let me know that as well. Wyndham has a number of other ski resorts, both in the Rockies (Steamboat, Beaver Creek, Durango, etc) and in the eastern US.

Wyndham PC and HGVC both have some availability. The registry collection is a boatload of points at 600 for a 1 BR and up for larger units high season. I'm not sure how it works for wait list for the registry collection but I presume you could. If so you could cancel if not matched. Are you trying to go Ski season or summer? There is time in summer at both places. Wyndham has items as late as early Dec but nothing for HGVC though Hilton tends to deposit more like 6 months out so there'd be a good chance of success there for winter. Weeks 51 & 52 for Park City are tough. You might also look at a private exchange, ? Marriott or Westgate as well. Or even talk to some of the independent exchange companies.

Thanks Dean, I'm looking for a week in the summer (any week in July or early August would work). The DVC site says it would be 80 points for a week, so I'm not sure what you mean by it costing 600 points? Is that RCI points? Even if I paid for a cash for a 1 bedroom for a week, it is only $300/night.

Not sure where you are seeing 80 points for a week for an RCI Registry Collection reservation. Below is a link to the 2016/2017 RCI Point Charts with the Registry Collection on page 3.

While Registry properties do start at 600 DVC points for a full week in high season, 1BR unit -- there are other Park City options offered through RCI starting at lower values. Don't be fooled by the DVC page that splashes, "RCI Exchanges from (starting at) 80 points per week!" You can search these yourself through the RCI portal on the DVC Member website.

EDITED TO ADD: Earliest check-in offered for any DVC>RCI exchange into Park City is April 2017. You are far too late to plan for summer 2016 -- but still w/in shot of summer 2017.

I take it back! I found one. The more you refresh and poke/prod that RCI interface the more you can find ...

Sun 31-Jul-2016 to Sun 07-Aug-2016 (800 DVC points for the week)

FWIW, if you have 800 DVC points, renting them out at $13/point and booking cash in Park City will take you further, longer.

Yes! I was fooled by the 80 points/week (I didn't see the "starting from"). I can get it MUCH cheaper then by selling my DVC points and paying cash! Thanks so much for all of your assistance!

For summer, I'd likely rent but a top option for the exchange DVC points is not that bad.
