Just to confirm...the DVC TiW card is $100 and is good for 9 people who eat with me? I can get it at guest services or at the resort?

Will the restaurants let me split the check? We'll be dining with my parents and I'm not sure if I should have my mom give me cash for them or will the server take two credit cards and split it?

The official rule is no check splitting. All the discounted meals are supposed to be on one check. However, there may be some servers who will split the check anyway, although it's not supposed to be that way. Hear that most restaurants will take multiple credit cards in payment for a single check - although I was denied that at Le Cellier.

I thought the price was $75 or is that because I'm thinking of AP? I looked into it but also have an AP.

your mileage will vary. we tried doing this on our last trip. my partner and i have tiw and we had a non-tiw friend with us. we wanted to us the discount just on our food and have them generate 1 discounted check and 1 non-discounted check. we were only successful once (unfortunately cant remember where). we just used our card most of the time and had our friend give us cash.

Plan to split the checks yourself, because it will be a true exception if you're able to find a server who is willing to split the checks and still give everyone the TIW discount. One thing that works in your favor is that most Disney restaurant checks are printed out with everything organized by seat number. It's just a matter of marking down which seat was which person.

I've found that the easiest way for us to coordinate splitting TIW checks is to charge all meals to the room. (When we're dining at Disney with others, they're usually staying with us.) I have Microsoft Excel on the laptop we leave in our Owner's Locker, and I'll normally just type all the receipts into that at the end of each night while I'm uploading photographs. (I'm a real geek and keep this spreadsheet anyway to keep track of our TIW and annual pass savings each trip. Having the split checks in the Excel spreadsheet is nice because it computes the taxes, extra tip, and TIW discount for each person.) Near the end of the trip, I'll tell everyone what their portion of the room charges came to and they either give me cash, or they can go to the front desk and apply that amount to the room charges using their own credit card, Disney Gift Card, or Disney Visa Rewards Card. So long as you do this settling up before the last night of your trip (or before you reach the approved amount for charging), it allows everyone the flexibility to pay with a card without having to ask the server to charge multiple cards at the restaurant.

If the resort has already processed all the room charges off to the credit card on file, it is possible to get them to reverse this, but it requires the intervention of a manager. It's better to get there before they process the payment in the first place.

One check. We've been DDE/TiW card holders for many years and have asked this very question and told no. In order for your guest to get the discount with you, the bill has to be one check. Now, you don't have to be the one paying. What we do is take turns paying. The only rule is is that the cardholder must be part of the dining party, but they don't necessarily have to be the person paying the bill. So on some occassions, my DD will pick up the check and pay.

a clarification - I had trouble getting them to split the check even when NOT trying to apply the discount to the 3rd party. in fact, in every situation we specifically asked for them to split the check first and then apply the discount only to our ticket. in all but one restaurant (we probably ate at 10 or more) we were told no. the more i think about it - the more i think it was LeCellier that allowed the split. again - no discount to the 3rd party, but we weren't trying to get a discount for them - only have separate payment methods. this was very challenging for most of the CMs.

Thanks everyone. I talked to my mom this morning and they are going to give me cash for their meals so only one check will be needed.

I'm soooo looking forward to TiW!!! No more DDP for me!!!

I realize it really isn't my business, but I thought I would ask anyway....

Whether you split the bill or not, why wouldn't you offer your friends the same discount? It didn't cost anything for them to get it and with you there, they were entitled. :confused3

Just curious.

Paul-

I think my previous post was a little mis-worded. it wasnt that we didnt "want" our friend to get the discount, just that we were trying to split check and knew that she wouldnt be eligible if the check was split. we did let her take advantage of the discount when she paid us for the food directly.
