Hi Everyone. I have some questions if I may about DVC and mousekeeping. Me and DW are doing a spilt stay this time and it happens that we are staying less than 4 nights at some of our resorts.

What do you guys do about leaving a tip for mousekeeping if they haven't been in? Shall we leave a tip anyway we would like to. How much should we leave?

Also how much do people generally leave in DVC resorts? Do you leave it per clean or per day?

Want to do the right thing for the really helpful CM!

We don't tip Mousekeeping, they are a non tipped employee per Disney and their union.

In addition they rarely clean our room when they are suppose to and they usually don't do a great job.

For DVC we tip the following:

$5.00 for a studio (left at end of trip) if a week or less.
$10.00 for a 1-bedroom (left at end of trip) if a week or less.
$20.00 for a 2-bedroom or GV (same as above).

We normally put out a do not disturb sign for trips of a week or less because we prefer not being disturbed, but I still tip because turning over a room to prepare it for the next guests is a huge job.

When we have stayed for 2 weeks, we leave the above at the 1 week clean and at then end of our stay. Housekeeping is a hard job and I just believe in leaving them a little reward.

No right or wrong in this, it's just personal preference.

We don't tip unless they do something extra for the same reason as Bill, I don't routinely tip non tipped positions. There are no timeshares in the UY that I am aware of that have housekeeping in a tipped position. Certainly in other countries this can vary but you get daily in room full housekeeping often washing dishes, etc.

We have a reservation booked at BLT and the Mousekeeping portion of our dues for that stay is $277, 326 points X .85 per point.

I'm sorry but we do not receive $277 worth of cleaning. Give me the money and I will clean the room myself and do a better job. To pay a tip on top of the cleaning fee is not something that we will ever do.

Exactly! Plus on my 4 night BCV stay I didn't even get my trash and towel, which totally sucked because I pulled all the towels and placed them in my tub and came back at the end of the day to them still there--very hard to shower with all yukky wet towels.

We do the same amounts.

Some may think we are crazy but guess what.. we also throw the dishwasher on and bundle all the used towels etc into the tub as well to make things easier for them. Let me add that I have also never had any issues with the condition of any of our rooms on arrival or issues with the T&T or full cleaning days. Maybe I have been lucky but then again now that I have said/typed that I may have jinxed myself for my upcoming trip in less than two weeks. :rotfl:

Lol. Thanks for your input! We have been lucky mainly too. We usually stay at SSR low season so maybe it's when it's busy the quality does south. Have a great time! How exciting less than two weeks!

OP, as you can see there are wide swings of opinion regarding tipping mousekeepers. So that means you will be fine doing whatever feels right to you. I am one who tips for trash and towel and at checkout. I have a special place in my heart for these women (I have never seen a male housekeeper) who get my room ready for me and $8.70/hour is not much of a wage. They always seem so very grateful to be acknowledged. I also contact Member Satisfaction when we receive particularly good service. Doing so is good for the mousekeeper and good for all of us because it helps to retain quality employees. Just my 2¢.

I agree and do the same. :thumbsup2

You got me thinking now! I have never seen a male housekeeper either! I have seen male rest room attendants.

I have seen male housekeepers. They cleaned up the mess the previous occupants left in the villa we were assigned and did not get into until 6PM. It was a NYE party and the previous guests were total pigs.

We only tip the tipped positions (valet, food servers, bell services), unless the housekeeper does something out of the ordinary for us.

I wonder if it's a Texas thing-I rarely tip mousekeeping either. They usually don't do a great job. Usually not bad, but this last time on T&T day, they didn't even add more TP and there wasn't much left. Then when I called for more, they told me I'd have to pay for it, trash and towel meant just that, nothing more!

That's too funny.

See, this could open a whole new topic, like that age old question about bringing a towel from the pool back to your room.

Is it OK to grab extra TP from a public restroom at a pool or lounge to use in your room?

No, you can call for extra toilet paper any time. Same with trash bags, paper towels, dishwasher detergent, dish detergent, vacuum cleaner bags. But not shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, laundry detergent, bath towels - unless you plan to pay for them.

Add me to the list of those that agree with you. Their hard work deserves an extra tip from us.

Forgive me I am from the UK you see. How do I know what is a tipped position vs a non tipped one? Just for my reference! it's probably something living in America you just know!

Tipped - food servers, bell services, valet.

Non-tipped - everyone else.

We are usually in studios and usually leave after 7 or 8 nights but I usually try to remember to leave $2-3 on T & T day and then a little more at check-out. My thoughts are that it may be different staff on any given day so whoever comes on T & T may not be the same person on check-out. This trip we will be in a 1-bedroom and staying for 9 nights. So in this case do we get T & T on day 4 and a full cleaning on day 8 then they clean it again when we leave? That seems odd. Like we will have a clean unit for 1 day at the end? I don't think I will want to leave extra tip for BOTH of those full cleanings... What do ya'll do in that case??:confused3
