DVC Ticket Price Complaint - Disneyland

On the flip side, the DVC perks at DL are actually pretty good compared to WDW -- most every restaurant on property has a DVC discount and many of the shopping options do as well.

This..I still get an AP since I usually visit twice a year and that is the savings trigger for me. The AP gives about the same discounts as DVC, but it's nice for DVC non AP holders to have this discount in so many places.

Coming at it from a different angle, as a Southern California resident...it seems somewhat unfair that Florida DVC residents get a discount on annual passes that they mention as a perk...when I fly from San Diego to WDW, I'm not buying an annual pass...I'm only staying 5 days or so and have to pay $1,200 or some crazy amount for park tickets for my family...I'm not sure how much the Florida annual pass is but I'd think the AP cost doesn't feel as wasted when it can be used all year round. No, I wouldn't pay $1,200 for a DisneyLand annual pass given that it is a 2-3 hrs driving distance away and requires enduring getting close to Los Angeles...LegoLand and Seaworld are half that cost and less than 30 minutes away - but I am happy there is at least one dvc resort and park I can drive to and another great resort within not too distant flying range (Aulani).

Basically, if you are coming from Florida and are in DVC -- you have it good....not sure there is much ground for complaint.

I don't think they should discount all DVC owners but I do think there should be a discount for VGC owners.

Next to impossible to do that. Can you imagine if they only discount WDW passes for members that own at WDW. Or only opened certain special events to WDW based owners? Much simpler if all owners are treated equally.

IMO expecting a discount is unreasonable, it at least borders on entitlement thinking. There is no obligation to offer any discount (or other perk) and it should not be expected. The economics will drive the issue as well as DVC's interest and tenacity. I do however feel that DVC should actively seek good discounts/perks but until they are willing to play hardball to get them and the membership willing to give up certain options in favor of better pricing, this will not happen. DVC is in a no win situation because they can't realistically go outside the Disney family such as to Universal to create competition and the other separate business entities know this. That members spend money while in residence has no meaning because anyone who stays (and someone will) will be spending money and for non members, likely more than members on average.

Unless I missed it thankfully no one has gone the "be fair and treat everyone equally" route which ignores the reality of life. I've seen people threaten to boycott businesses that didn't treat everyone the same which essentially means they can't do business with anyone every. The reality is that for companies like Disney, discount are economically driven, not a reward or gift, 100% of the time.

They purposefully exclude DVC owners from qualifying for FL resident discounts, I'd expect the same for CA owners. Thus not only will they not give special discounts, they'll ensure you don't get them based on DVC ownership.
