DVC & Tables in Wonderland Question

I buy the TiW card because I'm cheap. I'm not going to tip a valet if I can park the car myself.

The valet parking price isn't just the tip you are saving, it's the actual price + the tip.:thumbsup2 So you are saving a decent amount....Cheap???:confused3 We're all trying to save a few bucks but honestly Whats another $5 or so ??? In the grand scheme of things.

Yes, but I personally don't value valet parking at anywhere near $20. In fact, I value it even less that the amount of a reasonable tip. Hence, I'll park the car myself to save that money.

BTW, You need to spend $500 gross before you recover the $100 cost of the TIW purchase. DH and I often get 2 - 3 trips on a TIW card.

I actually consider this inaccurate. As DVC members (or AP holders) we already get a discount at many of the locations included in TiW. At those locations the effective discount is less than 20% for your food. For example, if DVC or AP offered a 10% discount on food then the effective discount on your food is only 10% since you already would have received a discount for your DVC or AP membership. Alcohol is only discounted on the TiW program so the 20% still applies there. I suggest taking this into account when doing the math to see if ti works for your family. At many places you are paying the $100 for an additional 10% discount on food and 20% discount on alcohol. It makes a difference.

That being said, we are TiW members (and DVC and AP) and have seen a good discount on our food expenses. In 2 trips last year we more than paid for the card and still have a trip to go in August of this year. That's all savings.

Chef de France and Morraco is what the manager at Chef d France told me last month and said their would be more in epcot- He was implying that only DInsey owned and run would still accept .

Well, thats certainly not a good sign of things to come...

Agreed. However I did use the Valet when I had my in-laws with me and also when the sky opened up with buckets of rain. Tip was worth staying dry!

I found this chart really helpful in figuring out whether or not to buy TIW (I already have an AP) because it lists all the current discounts for DVC, AP, TIW, and Visa: http://allears.net/pl/disc_dining.pdf

FYI kind of off topic, but you can't add the TIW card to your magic band. We were at WDW last week and asked but it's not linked into the My Disney Experience system yet so even though everything else is on the band (tix, fps, cc, room key) you have to carry the TIW card with you. Not a huge deal because it's just a little paper thing, but could be easy to forget in your room so just know you have to physically present it to use it. Hopefully they change this by the time we go again!

Don't know if they never did or recently stopped-Teppan Edo does not accept TIW.

Does it matter if they do? When I ask for AP or DVC discount they always ask for the card...even though my MB should show AP and DVC! The sliders don't even help :rotfl:. I guess they are hoping people would forget to use their discounts!

Never did. That's why we rarely eat there…. I am bummed they took La Hacienda de San Angel off TIW a couple years ago. I know there is a 10% DVC discount there but I'm assuming it doesn't include alcohol, right?! There are no DVC or AP discounts available in the MK. We usually plan meals at 2 or 3 of the TS restaurants there so TIW comes in handy if we plan any meals in MK…. We like to plan our bigger / nicer meals for the evening and many of the DVC & AP discounts are restricted to lunch.

TiW is the only discount that includes alcohol.

Haha that's a good point! We never used the AP discount at restaurants so I didn't realize that. And yes you are so right of course they are hoping you'll forget! : )

I wonder if they'd take a photo instead of the actual card? Anyone have experience with this? Then I don't have to carry them around, just my phone and MB.

The card has a magnetic strip on it. I imagine they have to slide it through the register.

Don't forgot your ID too. Last time we went (Dec14), I needed DVC, Disney Visa, ID, and tickets (DH has lots of issues with his band). The MB was handy for not having to pull out a ticket or FP a lot, but I still had a bunch of cards to carry. Usually, we have an AP and TIW with that list, but our next trip is more than a yr away so let those lapse.

Getting back to the discounts, yes you can get discounts with AP or DVC but a most are for breakfast and maybe lunch. Only a couple for dinner. The TIW also gives you the 20% at values resorts, we loved that part before we got DVC.

Hmm, well perhaps they don't want to completely eliminate the need for photo ID because there are other uses for them beyond the world of Disney parks, like if you were to have an accident your drivers license would be the easiest form of identification to emergency personnel etc.

It's a really helpful site.

Every trip involves different restaurants for us, so we evaluate things each time. This last trip the restaurants we ate at took DVC discount so we left it at that.

Yep. I carry everything I used to carry, PLUS the magicband.

Yep again. I also carry my insurance card, just in case I end up with a broken leg or something. Sure the hospital would treat me, but for some reason we tend to get doctors that graduated last in their class anyway...no need to throw in confusion over whether we have good insurance or not.
