Again, why would DVC go to all this trouble when they don’t need too?

They simply need to look at the membership and watch what is happening…and look for patterns that seem out of whack against what would be considered normal levels of renting?

Yes, I definitely agree that DVC will do this the simplest way they can, which would be automation.

They really have all they need to enforce whatever rules they decide fit the criteria they are supposed to create…patterns of renting that lead them to believe you are no longer renting within reason and have turned yourself into a business.

It’s one of the reasons the 2008 policy worked because it was simple to explain and enforce.

Strong possibility we’re all putting way more thought in this than the responsible people at DVC.

Wow.

So snarky and calling me a liar. Well the good thing is, I don't care what you think. That is the privilege accompanying the internet.
The gift to not care what others type.

You forgot we also have annual passes and the Member Benefits Plus. That I rented points to buy a Disney cruise at the behest of this very forums members.

But yea, think what you like. I'm a big ol' bad DVC member snatching up your coveted dates! Just picture Pete the cat, that's me.

The point is that you’ve been a member for 2 years, have likely 500+ points at WDW which you haven’t been to in 25 years, and have rented out almost all your points the entire time you’ve been a member. You said yourself you bought extra points to rent. You aren’t a big baddy, but you tried to come across as someone who just ran into scheduling issues for a few years and had to rent points. It’s like the cliche of this whole thread, the crazy “what ifs” that are really just renters trying to keep their niche.

Hence why I feel like I have to feel weird about renting out most of my points while I'm the middle of rebuilding my house from a fire.

Anyway I just was randomly reminded of a conversation I had with someone at DVC recently (recently as in, maybe early May?). My wife and I had annual passes that still had time left on them, and we decided to use some of our points for a quick weekend getaway for our anniversary even though we rented out most of the others this year.

While I was working with someone at Member Services on the phone to merge a couple of one night reservations I had managed to snag for a VGF resort studio, she made some mention of the other upcoming reservations I had booked under other people's names. I just sort of off handedly mentioned that yeah we had to rent out a bunch of our points this year. And her response seemed very strange. She got all weird about it and was like "whoa whoa, don't tell me that!" I thought it was weird because I never thought that sort of thing was frowned upon. Oh well.

I think most everyone on this thread concurs that renting out all your points one or two years after being a member for a decade is much different than renting out 75% of your points every year you’ve been a DVC member. Besides, like the PP said, it doesn’t matter what anyone here thinks. I just think we can’t have a conversation if we are pretending our motives are different than they really are.

Let’s not get into personal judgements of others. Posts were deleted.

Big reminder…no one is in violation of the contract UNTIL DVC tells them their level of renting is not reasonable in relation to the right to rent.

We all get to have an opinion on how we interpret the contract AND what we hope to see DVC use to define the what it means to be using your membership as a commercial enterprise.

We all seem to agree that large point owners with thousands of points appear to be the ones DVC should review.

But, until we get further information, we respect that someone who rents, for whatever reason, is basing it on their interpretation of the contract and what is allowed.

My opinion? Yes…especially since they have said or done nothing that indicates this is more than an attempt to go after the mega renters.

Lets see what DVC ends up doing.

If the assumption is correct that DVC will only look at new reservations made after June 1st 2025, then it might be awhile before we will see and hear anything, as it would take a while to establish that something is done frequent and regularly.

If they use any and all available reservations then we should hear something much sooner.

The responsibility to police this situation is on DVC, and they are derelict in their duty. You can’t fully blame the criminals for breaking laws that aren’t enforced. If DVC would actually do something, any little thing at all, this thread wouldn’t exist.

It will also be interesting to see what info I get from my request.

It also could be that they are trying to find a legal way to enforce without much pushback, given the stance they took with the 2008 policy.

I do think it is interesting that there has been a lack of notification from DVC to owners about anything, including the change to the check box.

The dishonesty is more then a little frustrating.

"I just want to be able to modify 11 of my 17 existing reservations, in case mee-maw can't go to WDW 7 times this year, plus my auntie em lost her best cow, and she asked me to take her name off the reservation and add John from Syracuse who IS HER BEST FRIEND, and shouldn't that really be allowed?"

Just say, I like renting out a large portion of my points, because I get to go to WDW "for free." At least then we know where we all stand.

Because honesty is rarely as profitable as dishonesty 🤷🏼‍♀️

It has been posted and highlighted many pages ago. Someone even joked about it using speeding as the basis.

Those that don't or have never rented a point are against anyone that does or have, to extent of fabricating motive
with nothing more than their opinion as proof. Hi lowlight.

I wonder, do those same people also take issue when members sell by way of transfer their points to another member?
Yes, I know, this is clearly against the DVC rules and while I haven't done any transfers in or out, it seems to have been missed in this thread and it is one metric for which DVC has clearly defined the rules for; no money can be considered for the transfer.

That may be because they have to physically transfer the points, members are unable to do it themselves, and that leaves them in the position as the facilitators of the transaction.
